hi. me and myh gf are both 16 and starting to play the tcg. i played when i was 13 but i lost interest and turned to magic the gathering. after a few years i decided that pokemon is the best tcg. (my gf convinced me haha) sooooo i been out of the game since like...the early DP sets (which were AMAZING) lol. so if theres any rule changes or new strategies please tell me :) i use to be realy good but i sold all my cards :headbang and what theme deck would you recomend me buying?? i like pokemon with low energy costs, that play kinda fast. so please help a returning player :) thank you :)

ive been looking to start up agin for awhile. but i have no idea what to buy because i have NO cards at all.

and a budget of $40

First off, are you going to be playing meta? If so, theme decks might not be your best bet, although there are a couple with nice staples.

They changed the first turn rules so that there is no disadvantage to going first :/

Poke-Powers and Poke-Bodies are now combined into Abilities.

The time limit is 30+3 turns instead of 40 minutes.

That's about everything I can think of, as far as rule changes.

There aren't a lot of good low-cost attackers right now. Yanmega Prime and Donphan Prime are the only ones close to being good, but they're both way out of your budget.

Yeah, they still have those. But it's cheaper to get the good cards in the tins off the internet instead of buying the tins themselves.

Staples cost a lot, but just getting the Pokemon lines for a Reshiram/Typhlosion/Ninetales deck could be around 40 dollars, although it doesn't fit your playstyle at all.

Reshiphlosion is more than $40. The Reshiram and Typhlosion alone, at promo price, is $36 roughly. If you are looking to start playing in the new format, the best thing to do is buy a starter deck and/or one of the tins they have out. My personal favorite starter decks that are out, are the Accelgor and Krookodile decks and the best tins are... The newest ones. They have the Black/White final stage starters in them or the Reshiram/Zekrom tins. Those are good too. Or even the victini box that comes with a Promo Zoroark. Those are some things to look into buying. Good Luck

You're in luck, I just so happened to have finished a budget deck for an upcoming PlayTCG tournament that goes for about 45 dollars (35 without the DCE, which is a league promo card, so if you have a pokemon league nearby, go to that and play for the DCE, one card will get what you need.) Because it's a tournament deck on PB, I hesitate to post it publicly until the tournament is done, but PM me, and I can probably send it to you that way. It's by no means BDIF, but it is a decent and cheap rush deck with some answers to metagame cards, namely Donphan. Most of them can run on one energy drop, so it's a nice face deck for setup. I'm thinking of making it for my cousin. Shoot me a message, I think you'll like it.

To summarize the deck though, it's a Cinccino rush deck running Reversal as a cheap alternative to catcher, with a couple other techs for type coverage and a fairly reliable refresh and draw engine. The deck actually thins itself out quite nicely.

well decks that I can think of that are under 40$ and fit your play style just off the top of my head also here`s what you've missed.

First lets go over some staples in this meta:

Pokemon Collector
your basic grab three basics card the new Roseanns research

Pokemon Catcher
Long gone are the days of the bench sitting tech pokemon...

Super Rod
Just Night Maintenance reworded. basic recover card.

Pokemon Communication
The New Bebe`s Search pitch one grab one pokemon.

Junk Arm
Not always a staple but its run in almost every non trainer locking deck(goth exception) you can see how useful this could be.

Switch
switch is switch its always been there always will (again dose not have to be staple in trainer lock decks)

Cleffa
Or as I like to call it ``Death Puff`` every deck plays atleast one of these and right they should as it gives you the option to get out of a bad hand or help set up.

Other cards like Tyrogue, Prof oaks new theory, juniper, sages, cheren, and other generally good supporters, trainer, and pokemon can be considered personal staples.

SO now that your caught up a bit some decks you might like:

illimuse/volbeat/Fliptini-load up your bench with volbeat and attack with Illimuse fliptini can reflip if you dont get the damage you want note you dont have too play victini its not mandatory you dont need need need it its just nice to have.

Durant- the new deck out deck does not attack with damage but still hurts and is fast and cheap get 4 out and go for broke, maybe its not what your looking for.

These are just two Pokebeach has Scans of all the cards if your bored just look through them and see what you like. Hope this helped.
