Ruling Mega Rayquaza EX and Devolution Spray

The expanded format is quite interesting, you may combine XY with Black & White cards. So I was looking for a way to abuse Devolution Spray and I came up with this idea:

You have the Colorless Mega Rayquaza EX with the ancient trait ability Delta Evolution and another Mega Rayquaza from Ancient Origins that has the ancient trait ability Theta Max.

Now if you have a damaged basic Rayquaza EX you could evolve it into the Theta version. This way you will heal ALL damage counters from it. Next you devolve it using Devolution Spray. It states that you can't evolve it this turn. However, the Delta version states you can evolve it during the first turn or the turn you played it.

If the Devolution Spray rule works like this: The devolved Pokémon counts as a Pokémon that was put into play this turn. Then this method should be possible. But it simply states that you can't evolve it. so I guess It's not possible.

It would be awesome though because basically it works like a Max Potion, only you don't have to discard all energy attached to it and you erase all status conditions.

This would work.

The text in parentheses on Devolution Spray is what's known as "reminder text" and is there to remind you of normal game rules - in this case, the fact that the newly-devolved Pokemon would have just come into play this turn and could not normally evolve. But that's ok, because Delta Evolution allows you to evolve even if you just came into play this turn.

Shiftry and Forretress donk decks took advantage of the same "reminder text" bypass with Forest of Giant Plants. Same mechanic.

If the text on Devolution Spray weren't in parentheses and were instead a stipulation of the card, you wouldn't be able to evolve. That's not the case here though :)

That's great, I was hoping this was the case. I didn't think of Shiftry, but that's indeed the same case. Thanks! Now let's try it out >:D
