1. Does M count as a basic?
2. After evolving to M, can you use the attacks of the previous evolution?
3. Does M count as an EX?
4. If one uses the Phantom Gate attack, do you ignore the effects? For example, if the opponents attack says, "Discard a lightning energy" Would I then need to have a Lightning energy attached to M Gengar EX?

2) No (unless you have an effect like time recall on celebi ex
3) Yes
4) Trest like zoroarks foul play in that you do as much as you can to satisfy attack requirements and text. If the attack says to discard a certain type if energy and you have that attached, then you do it. If the attack says you damage yourself, you do that as well. If you don't have a certain type of energy it says to discard the. You just ignore that part. With one exception: IF the attack says things like "if you can't do X" then "this attack does nothing" then you must meet that requirement. For example if you wanted to use lugia's Plasma Gale attack you'd have to be able to discard a plasma energy in order to attack because it says, "...If you can't discard a Plasma Energy, this attack does nothing"
