MegaEvolutions in the TCG

As much as PB hasn't written about it [yet], most of the fanbase is aware of Mega Evolutions now. How will this affect the TCG in XY1?

Pros:
  • More evolution power! Hopefully to make for a more skill-based format.
  • Level X style mechanic for ultra rare cards perhaps?

Cons:
  • "So in our current format Stage 2s are nigh-impossible to set up... I know! Let's make Stage 3s!"

Speculation thread!

well.... this is actually good for the TCG. I know I know, the rotation was announced for BW-on come 2014-2015. but that was described as "alternate" SOOOOOOO that means that the modified fromat could be XY-on, getting rid of big basics and allowing evolutions to succeed. Who knows though, this may be just a VG thing and may not be introduced to the TCG yet. We'll see come XY.

Possibly a SUPER Rare Candy could come into play????

I like this. Imo, it was a good, creative move.

It's like giving a special form to a Pokemon when you put down a Lv. X on it :p
Or like a Pokemon's Super Saiyan mode haha.

If they keep reprinting Stage One/Two Basic EX's you might be able to Evolve the EX into a mega Pokemon. I really like this addition.

OOOOHHH would we be able to give it less Hp and weaker attacks to?? lol waste a turn waiting to evolve hoping that you dont give up two prizes doesnt seem like fun

I really can't wait to see this come into the TCG. I wasn't around for the Lv. X era of the Pokémon TCG (well, a tiny bit at the end before rotation, I guess), but it seemed pretty cool and it seems like MegaEvolutions could bring a similar fun element to play. Sure, it may just end up being ridiculous power-creep, but I can hope, can't I?

The BW-on thing is a whole new format, different to Modified entirely.
And there's no way in hell Modified 14-15 will be XY-on, it'll be BCR-on because it's when B2W2 started in TCG.
If it was to be XY-on, then at 2015 Worlds we'd only have about 5-6 sets to even use, compared to 10 sets in '12, 9 sets in '13 and 10 sets in '14.

Please, just don't even...

I'm looking forward to see how they implement this to the TCG. I'm hoping it's more like the Lv X style since I didn't play the game when those were in the format.

inb4 Megamons are all basics and incredibly overpowered like EXes yet don't have the EX drawbacks.

You know, its the logical next step up.

Honestly, I would love to see these in the TCG.

It gives the artists so much room for creativity in card design. It would be a great secondary gimmick for X&Y in the TCG.

While I think Mega Evolutions are a stupid idea, I think it will make for a good mechanic in the TCG. Since they already revived EX's in Black & White, why not revive Lv. X's, but with a little twist? I think it will just be the same as Lv. X's, but it's possible that the Mega Stone or whatever will be involved in an inventive way.

Do you think they could pull off a yugioh and have the mega forms outside of the main deck, and you require some trainer card to evolve into mega, thus requiring three cards, the pre-evolution, the mega, and the trainer card that induces mega evolution? Heck, continuing with the whole digimon thing, they can do fusions too, and yugioh has fusions. Coincidence?

I just feel that there should be a different way of achieving meganess other than just placing a card on top of the existing one like how you evolve stage1 into stage2.

I feel so much more can be done with the game, without doing the same thing with a fresh coat of paint, but the restrictions to the game is tied down what the video games are, heck, even the video games has restrictions based on some stuff, I mean, how many people would hate the idea of fusions, or fission, or uh, a bunch of other new features? Right now, I think the whole mega thing is just the same thing with a fresh coat of paint, but the TCG has the ability to make it different. The games, not so much.

I think that Mega Pokemon will be kind of a Stage 3 (kinda like lv x), require some sort of rare candy-like card, and be slightly less OP than EX cards, which I think will stay in the XY series.

I would like to see a level X mechanic.

Although, I don't see how they could pull that off with big basics still in format.

I believe this:
(Consider that the "Mega-" in the pokemon are the same, but in everything else is "Awaken____"
Take MegaBlaziken as an example:
-You have a Blaziken in play that has a "Blazikenite" tool. The tool will say "If the Pokemon this card is attached to is Blaziken, once during your turn, you may flip a coin. If heads, search your deck for a MegaBlaziken and put it onto this Pokemon(this counts as Awaking this Pokemon)(aka, remove conditions, respect 1-turm period...). Shuffle your deck afterwards.(Pretty weird, but possible)
--You have a Blaziken in play and play a Awakening Stone Item. The card says: "Choose one of your Pokémon. If you have an Awakened Form of that Pokémon in your hand, put that card on the Pokémon(This counts as Awakening this Pokemon). You can't play this card during your first turn or on a Pokémon that was put in play this turn.(Rare Candy-like).

MegaPokemon Cards?!

So with the new 'Mega' Pokemon being announced, any thoughts to as if they might replace these god awful EX's and fix the power creep? Installing such a new mechanic would be the perfect time to fix it, and they can work like LV.X's maybe, or have a item needed to be played alongside it. Just my thoughts but what are the community's on this?\

Edit: DERPY DERP DERP! Missed the other thread -_-. Mod delete this pl0x? Can not find the delete thing on my own ;_;

How about you can have 1 Mega Pokemon in your deck, and that envolves from the non mega pokemon. (etc Lucario into Mega Lucario)

I don't get why everyone is calling this the 'awakened' stuff. It seems as if the pokemon was asleep and you just woke it up.

I would be welcome to a Lv.X style card, but they would be unplayable until big basics leaves the format.

As long as Mega Formes in the TCG aren't Big Basic EX's but are
Stage 1/Stage 2 Evolution cards instead with great attacks, abilities, solid HP, and good weakness/resistances, then I'm okay with it otherwise it would contribute more power creep to the TCG with the currently existing Big Basic EX's in the NXD-On format and that's something we don't need anymore.
