At the start of the tournament, some players were found to be trading, so instead of banning everybody they thought was involved (which would be unfair if they hadn't), they just allowed trading.

I pulled a good number of pansear/pansage as well as tepig's line and reshiram. I also pulled 2 samurott... AND NO PROFESSOR JUNIPER. The one supporter that would own prereleases... and I get none of.

My deck list looked like:

4-4 pansear
2-2-2 Emboar (1 Infernal Fandango, 1 of the dud one)
2-2-2 Samurott (1 pike(dud), 1 shell armor)
2 Reshiram

22 pokes

2 Pokemon Communication
1 Poke Ball
1 Pokedex
1 Energy Search

5 trainers

10 fire, 3 water; I think

13 energy

R1; vs Reuniculus/Swoobat (joey)

These games were quite funny - watching him try to set up a 1-1-1 line of reuniculus. Game 1 involved me getting out a fast Simisear to start hitting his bench; while he evolved to Swoobat to attack with Heart Stamp. He can't really do anything, so I take the game. Game 2 involved setting up reshiram in two turns and killing everything he had.

Overall, both games took less than 5 minutes. We do a friendly as a third game, but I take that one easily as well. It was a shame; he is a really nice guy, but his deck was terrible.

R2; vs Maractus/Serperior/Zekrom(Reshiram?)

The next game was against a guy playing Maractus (he had 4) with serperior (with royal heal) and either zekrom or reshiram (can't remember). Game 1 included a start off with Simisear hitting his bench for 20 each and his active for 40; but once he got 3 grass energy onto Maractus he was able to start healing for 50 while dealing 50. I manage to get out Emboar and sweep with Flame Charge.

The second game included him getting his zekshiram out, which I ko with my reshiram. He then revives it (imba) and manages to beat my second reshiram.

The third game includes me starting out with Simisear and spreading damage to all of his pokemon. I have simisear active while he has a maractus, however time is called with both of us having 4 prizes; next prize wins. Basically, it all came down to can he get 3 heads in a row on his Servines attack (30 damage, if heads paralysis + discard an energy).

I had the energy in my hand, and thankfully, it was fire. He gets paralysis on the first one. It has me worried, because a game that was heavily in my favor could bring me to losing (I had reshiram with 2 energy on my bench; but no way to retreat!). He attacks the next turn, but gets tails. I then proceed to KO 3 of his pokes in one turn for three prizes. GG.

2-0

Third round: vs Darmanitan/Emboar/general fire deck w/ Bouffalant

I can't remember much about this set of games; however he had good pulls too - including Reshiram and bouffalant. He constantly puts out a pignite/a low hp poke so when I kill it with reshiram, he counter knock-outs with bouffalant. In that game, it worked well. I tried to deck him out by stalling, however I kept getting dud draws (at the end I had Dewott Dewott Samurott Samurrot Emboar Emboar in my hand)

In the second game, there's nothing more to be said than I set up samurott (the bad one) and swept his team one after the other in four turns, after getting samurott out on the fourth turn I got four prizes in four turns.

In game three, he is preparing the same strategy. However, after he singes me with darumaka, he doesn't expect me to use blue flare to knock out his darumaka before he puts energy on his bouffalant. This renders him unable to use it's revenge attack, and with the damage counters on reshiram, I proceed to sweep the rest of his pokes.

3-0

Round 4: Emboar/Reshiram/Darmantian

I forget this guys name... I should remember though.

He is running Emboar/Reshiram/Darmanitan, while I was runnign Emboar/Reshiram/Simisage. However, he has the huge benefit of having 2-3 Professor Juniper while I had 0! This makes him able to abuse Inferno Fandango by attaching many energy in one turn... which sucks. Every single game we played he managed to use both junipers in the first like 5 turns. Anyway;

Game 1 includes me getting reshiram out and sweeping him with blue flame and outrage. He had some trouble getting energy, but he didnt have much chance as I started with reshiram and about 5 energy.

Game 2 includes him using the aforementioned juniper and emboar strategy to get emboar out, then juniper, then attach 4 energy to it in one turn. When he is two prizes ahead with a three energy reshiram on the bench, I scoop.

Game 3 includes me getting a god start. My lone reshiram vs his lone darumaka. He foolishly burns me turn 1, allowing me to power up my outrage. However, I get 'unlucky' and keep flipping heads for burn. I have severe trouble killing darumakas. After blue flameing to get my second prize on a full hp darumaka, i finally take the 20 damage to get from 40 damage to 60. (this would mean outrage would have been able to kill him in one hit.) He brings up his emboar, and uses his flame crash thing (the 80 damage one) which does 80 damage, bringing me to 10/130. He then flips tails for burn, and I die. With a full hp 4 energy emboar out in the main position, and nothing else set up on my side, I lose quite quickly, while trying to set up my samurott (which ended up with only 1 water energy when I needed 1 more water and 1 more fire).

I lose. 3-1.

Still, I came second; and I got some pretty good pulls too. It's a shame I didn't get any reunculus or serperior which I wanted to build a deck around them, but it doesn't matter. I have a tendency to get bitter when I lose due to stupid things like coin flips or not getting junipers, but I wasn't that annoyed.

Props:

Well done. The pre-release sounds like fun! Mine isn't until 1st May, which sucks. I have two questions. One is do you get a deck box and what was the pre-release promo.

Well, sadly, the answer is you get a deck box - but we didn't. Also, I have no idea what the pre-release promo was because we haven't got it yet (or at all?)
