Pokemon Metronome Theory - How does Clefairy use Wood Hammer, anyway?

DNA

Goodbye, everyone. I'll miss you all.

Ah yes. A move that has existed since the dawn of Pokemon, and has since then never ceased to confuse us all.
That's right, I'm talking about Metronome.

Metronome is the move that, when used, causes the user to use any other random move...out of the, what, 500+ moves that exist out there? That's basically what the move does, nothing much to it.

But the question is...how? How does a Pokemon like Clefairy end up pulling off moves like Fire Fang, Rock Polish, Aeroblast, or even Meteor Mash? (Wait, never mind on the last one =D )
I believe there is some sort of method to this madness.

In 4th-Gen games, Metronome states that the user wags a finger, stimulating its brain into using nearly any move. But it still doesn't directly answer the question.

Here's my theory. I believe it has something to do with Mew. Mew, as we all know, contains the DNA of all Pokemon, and, in my opinion, is the progenitor of virtually every Pokemon, not counting Arceus/Space-Time trio/Soul trio/few other legends. (You may argue that it came even before Arceus, and that's acceptable, but first let me finish my thought.)

I think Mew is a lot like a being comprised of mostly stem cells, which can effectively specialize themselves into any sort of Pokemon out there, so it can be said all Pokemon come from Mew. That said, it is possible that the resulting final Pokemon does carry, within its genetic code, vestiges of Mew. As a result, it has a latent power with the capability to perform any sort of move...which can be set off by Metronome. What wagging the finger has to do with that is anybody's guess!

I thought this would be an exciting topic to talk about as a Pokemon mythos. So, everybody, what are your thoughts on why Metronome can copy any move at random? Discuss!

Note to mods: I think this might be an interesting topic to talk about in this forum, but if it seems too off-the-wall or might not promote much discussion...well, that's your call.

What does progenitor mean.... O_O
Lol joking, interesting theory, although I can't think of one a theory....
All I can think of is that only a few Pokemon learn Metronome via level up and the rest via breeding, TM or Move Tutor.
So maybe the Pokemon that learn it via level up have it in their genes....
and the rest (TM, Breeding, Move Tutor) are just like other moves, they learn them.....
Not a very good theory is it.... :|

Hm, interesting. If you think about it, Clefairy does sort of look like Mew. Maybe it's a distant cousin? :p

@Scizorliscious: Yes, but you have to remember, Metronome was also a TM in RBY and a tutor move in FRLG, so more Pokemon could learn it. One of them is Snorlax, who I think you'll agree looks nothing like Mew...so I'm not sure if you can base it on likeness to Mew alone...

On a semi-related note, why can Mew, if it contains the DNA of all Pokemon, not use EVERY move, only the ones that People chose to make into machines?

I like it when Metronome users get Explosion.

Trainer: "Clefairy, use Metronome!"

Clefairy: *Waggles finger*

Trainer: "What the..? Is that C4?"

Clefairy: "ALLAH ACKBAAAR!!"

Trainer: OH SH-

BOOM

I find this amazing. I was in total shock once when my clefairy (was grinding, don't judge me) used judgement.

Clefairy: Wiggles finger

Game: Clefairy uses judgement

Me: HOLY FUDGE. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE. CLEFAIRY> ARCEUS.

Well, I get the finger thing- It wags its finger like that to be like an actual metronome, well, old styled ones anyway. As for why they gave it that name and how it actually works is beyond me. I think thatthe random move is ticked into it's mind, and the Pokemon (A Clefairy in this case) does that attack to the best of its ability, so it could throw itself at a foe at full force, using Giga Impact, or belch up flames, using flamethrower.

I don't think we'll ever know.

@DNA, yeah, I guess I forgot it's not only Clefairy/Clefable...
well, I guess the world will never know.

in pokemon stadium alot of poke knew metronome. like alakazam...which used fly when i did it lol. and its obvious that snorlax is just the fat cousin of mew :p

I think it may be a simple concept. Mew being the ancestor of all pokemon, has dormant "Blueprints" of every single pokemon species in its DNA. When a pokemon uses metrenome, it accesses the dormant features in its DNA, allowing it to utilize moves from all other species. Just like in humans. We have the ability to grow tails in our gene code. That option happens to be dormant in our DNA instructions for some reason. If something goes wrong in the developing stage, an outside force changes the genetic code of the growing human, or some other strange malfunction occurs, a human could potentially be born with a tail. The chances of this happening naturally is EXTREMELY low. Much much less than one in a billion, most likely. This can be demonstrated by an experiment done by some college on birds. They somehow inserted a protein with the genetic code to unlock the dormant ability of having pterodactyl-like teeth. Although I'm pretty sure this bird died before hatching, pictures showed that it was in fact developing the teeth of its long ancestor.

Just my 2 cents :p
