Ruling Mewtwo * Energy Absorption qns

i got a qns
lets say there is a raindow energy in the discard pile
my active pokemon is Mewtwo *
i use the atk energy absorption which allows me to take back rainbow energy and attach it to Mewtwo *
The qns is does Mewtwo * receive 1 damage counter ? (as rainbow energy got an effect)

Effect is if from your hand, thus no. Apart from the attack condition.
