Mewtwo EX

Let me first start by saying that I did not have a better, more catchy name. I've been working on my own Mewtwo version for the last 2 weeks and Coming close to a pretty viable alternative.

Before I post my list, I would like to say that this decklist will not follow any of the norms that some will be playing. This deck contains a Counter to Mewtwo EX, no Skyarrow Bridge, and still needs a bit of work.

Pokemon:
3 Mewtwo EX
2 Cobalion NV
2-2 Dodrio UD
2-2 Musharna ND
3 Celebi Prime
1 Cleffa

Trainers:
3 Collector
3 PONT
2 Cilan
3 Juniper
2 Seeker
2 Switch
4 Communication
2 Super Rod
3 Catcher
3 Junk Arm

Energy
2 Metal (Sp)
2 Metal
4 Prism
2 DCE
5 Grass

The deck is supposed to work like this:

Mewtwo sets up in the first few turns by starting Celebi, Cleffa is the alternative starter in the event of a seriously bad start hand. Cobalion is a Mewtwo Counter which, more often than not, uses Energy Press for revenge hits. Dodrio is for free-retreat and Musharna, like in the days of MD-On, is added draw support.

I usually set up like this:

Start is ALWAYS one of two Pokemon - Celebi or Mewtwo EX. If Mewtwo is the starter and going against another Mewtwo Deck, then then its a game of Cobalion Vs Mewtwo with continuous hand support by Musharna. By the second or third turn Dodrio Usually sets up and the free switching takes place. This allows for an easier change from an active Celebi/Mewtwo to the other.

The huge issue I've been having is against Chandelure. This deck is also pretty difficult to stay focused on because of so much going on.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I don't think giving your opponent the ability to retreat his or her basic Pokemon for less energy is a reason to replace Skyarrow Bridge with Dodrio. Musharna is also rather counterproductive, as you're spending a lot of cards to get a weak draw engine into play. Many supporters or trainers are more powerful than Musharna is. Because many hyped lists of Mewtwo decks play alternative attackers, such as Tornadus, Cobalion loses effectiveness because Mewtwo can hide behind a Pokemon such as Tornadus and fight down your Cobalion or Celebi while you lack attacks as efficient as the opponent's. Playing Tornadus of your own and/or a basic Pokemon with either more straight power or a less situational role as Cobalion, like Terrakion (there ought to be a better Pokemon at beating a Mewtwo-based deck than Terrakion, but it works with your Catcher to KO Celebi and it two-shots Mewtwo), would be more effective than Cobalion, I believe. The alternative Pokemon should only use one non-grass energy for its useful attack. I also don't like the loss of a prize when using Cleffa. Virizion is a safer play, and it also works with your grass energy. I would also play around ten Grass energy and more energy recovery cards to keep your deck running consistently.

I just want to say thank you for saying Cobalion is a Mewtwo counter, I think it's better than using another Mewtwo.J

The problem with dodrio is that you will keep having to set it up because it can easily be catchered and OHKOd. I'd
+1 collector
+1 Junk arm
-1 super rod
-1 energy

I think that 4 collector is better for more consistency, and junk arm is optional but it better for consistency and to reuse the catcher because it is important.

I can see how Dodrio would be questionable. I feel like if it is Catcher'd than it would be either be way early in the game, which will leave me with few options, or way too late in the game when it wouldn't matter. It really is, for me atleast, a more reliable way to move Mewtwo/Celebi around. I don't feel like Bridge is strong enough to warrant giving your an opponent the same advantage.

Is there a better way to solve this conundrum?

At present my biggest problem is Chandelure - most Mewtwo EX lists are very trainer heavy, and against a fast Chandelure list most of them will fall easily. The two reasons are this - Item Locking refuses Catcher, so Chandelures are impervious to most threats. Secondly Chandelure has a Darkness weakness, is above the 120 Damage cap of Mewtwo EX and cant really get over it without PlusPower. Of course there are other reasons, but those are the biggest.

Well, chandelure decks are not that great anymore and mew two can OHKO them if played correctly. Mewtwo is also a lot faster to set up. I think that 1 or 2 tornadus could be good in this deck since it already runs celebi.

I wouldn't be too sure about your Chandalure comment, I've seen my friend Racheal dominate any deck, even with Mewtwo proxys in them and ND decks that are supposed to change the meta. I think chandy is still pretty good.

Before I start my debate, I'm going to assume the mewtwo variant you speak of is Celebi/mewtwo Ic I'm wrong than don't bother reading.

Chandelure is still incredibly competitive, it has the ability to control the whole game, including the mewtwo war. I'll put a damage counter on each of your mewtwos, dragging one up with a Lampent. You X-Ball my Lampent? Awesome. Free retreat the Lampent, one shot your mewtwo with my 2 energy mewtwo. (20 x 4 = 80 x 2 + 10 from the earlier cursed shadow) You mewtwo me back? I'll mewtwo your face in. Now I'm ahead in the prize exchange. While tornadus does put pressure on my set up, your only activating twins. Chandelure can give you as many prizes as it wants, and still win the game. If you say your going to Celebi me into oblivion, I'm going to laugh and free retreat my psychic chandelure after cursed shadowing then decimate you board with a fire chandelure.

If you still think the deck is bad, then thats the stupidest thing ever. What ruins you to the extent of it being bad? Zekrom EX? Aipom their dce or if they're correct by discarding their dces, you can n them and continue to tail code. If they stop attaching to the zekrom ex active, retreat the aipom and cursed shadow their zekrom ex to oblivion, when they smarten up go back to tail coding win on time. :) the decks STRONG. But it's even more neccessary for beaches with all the other counter stadiums.

Not theory-mon, but test results.

I was thinking of updating my Chandy deck just in case with a couple of Mewtwo - I hadnt considered the Fire Chandy either tbh, I just might have to...

One of the biggest reasons chandelure is a threat to Mewtwo is that it hits for weakness but is not affected by that same weakness.
