Ruling Mr. Mime's Benched Barrier ability effect.

Hi, I have a doubt Mr Mime's ability Bench Barrier. If this Pokémon is knocked out by an opponent's attack, is the ability immediately no longer in effect? The ability reads: "Prevent all damage done to your Benched Pokémon by attacks".

Suppose that Mr Mime is the opponent's active Pokémon, and mine is M-Blastoise Ex with the Hydro Bombard attack. This attack reads: "This attack does 30 damage to two of your opponent's Benched Pokémon..." and does 120 damage to the active, enough to knock out the Mr. Mime.

If I attack with the Blastoise, the Mr. Mime would be knocked out, but my question is: in this attack the opponent's Benched Pokémon would by damaged too or not? It's clear to me, that if the Mr. Mime is not knocked out, then the answer is no, but it this case the Mr. Mime is knocked out.

Greetings.

Bench damage does NOT go through, even if Mr. Mime is Knocked Out.

The answer has to do with the "order of operations" of attacks. When resolving an attack, all damage is done and all effects take place BEFORE checking for Knock Outs. In effect, Mr. Mime is sitting there with enough damage to knock it out while you do the check for its Ability for bench damage, then when all that is done you resolve the Knock Out.

It's the same reason why Shaymin-EX can Sky Return out of a KO, etc.

Ok. Thank you very much!
