Ok so I have decided to start a new game on Pokemon Gold, the reason why I haven't decided to play HG/SS is purely down to the fact that I don't have the game neither do I have a DS at this moment in time. Now to the fun part my starter I have chosen.

Totodile: I chose this pokemon because he has decent stats and I needed a pokemon that was water. Means I don't have to search for one later in the game.

You can reccommend pokemon for me to catch and I will name it after a name of your choice. Comment below with the name of the pokemon and the name you want it to be called. I will keep the best pokemon in my party.

Party as of now:

Totodile: Toto Lv13
HootHoot: Hooter Lv12
Zubat:Rizzle Lv 11

Gym Badges:

1st Gym Done

Definitely recommend getting a Crobat! They're fairly easy to obtain and they're a great Pokémon to teach Fly.

I voted for Gold in the poll but in hindsight, I just remembered Gold version has the level 70 Lugia. I always preferred the level 40 Lugia because it knows Aeroblast which was a fun move back when I had the games. :p

Edit: You can name the Crobat anything you like if you get one. :D

do a nuzlocke or you aren't a proper man.

Explain what that is to me then ??

A Nuzlocke is a style of doing a Pokemon game to make it harder.
The main rules of a Nuzlocke are:
The first Pokemon in each route can be caught
If a Pokemon faints, it is considered dead and must either be permanently boxed/released.
Pokemon must be nicknamed to increase bonds with them (not a major rule, but most people do it anyway)
Some other rules people like to include:
No legendaries
No use of the Masterball
No duplicates of Pokemon (e.g. catching a Bellsprout and then finding another one)
If a blackout happens, game over (some people like to have 2/3 chances at this).

Anyway, onto Pokemon:
I'd recommend catching Lapras in the Union Cave (every Friday), as it has a slightly better moveset than Feraligatr, better balance of attack stats (this is particularly painful for Feraligatr since many of it's moves are Special in Gen 2-the only physical ones I can think of are Iron Tail-not a great move, and Earthquake-one of the best moves in the game) whereas Lapras has Ice Beam (one of the best Ice type moves) naturally, Thunder and Zap Cannon (making up the infamous BoltBeam combination), Psychic (aftergame, but the 'great move factor' inspired moi to put it here). It also gets Sing (horrid accuracy-I wouldn't recommend using it), Confuse Ray, and Toxic just to have some status-causing moves-never a bad thing.
And don't be turned down by Lapras' relatively low speed, as it's great HP stat and good defenses will mean it can live a hit or two (in HGSS I used one against Lance's Dragonites, and it survived 2 hits of Outrage and KO'd it with Ice Beam) and it's decent attack stats means it can hit with good power.
A tad bit hard to get it right, but if got right, it is a great Pokemon.

Zubat can be found in the Dark Cave (just outside Violet City), and can be trained well in Sprout Tower.

A good Fire-type would be Ho-Oh, since you don't have Typhlosion, but if you don't want to use legendaries, Arcanine is a good Pokemon to use. Fire Stone is a pain to get though.

Well I'm not going to do it the hard way then and Ok i'm going to catch a Zubat though i trained hoot hoot in the sprout tower.

So me team so far will be

Totodile = Feraligatr
Hoothoot = Noctowl
Zubat = Crobat

Lapras can be found later in the game yes ? I will get Ho Oh so no need to catch anymore atm as it stands is my team alright?.

Your team has a glaring weakness to Ice and Electric moves, so I'd recommend getting a Quagsire. I know it would double up types, but it's immunity to Electric-type moves would be great to help your team, and it's only weakness is relatively uncommon in the game (the only major one I can think of is Silver's Bayleef and Erika), but Crobat and Noctowl can easily destroy them. It also covers Rock moves, which you have a weakness to.

Ok problem I have is I can't catch zubat i need to lower its hp but my pokemon just kill it. Plus they are harder to find in the cave than I thought

If you catch a Pidgey at around level 3-4, it should be able to do a good amount of damage without KOing it. If the worst comes to the worst, just toss a load of balls at it and hope for the best.

Ahh ok I managed to get one Im training him up but its hard as it doesn't learn bite till lv 12 and leech life is terrible. My team is updated also I've beaten the first gym.
