I'm collecting all of the Black Star Promos and have been asking around from friends who once collected before I start spending any money. (Which has worked amazingly, I finished all of the Classic Sets and have about half of the Promos) Expectedly, the cards I obtain are in various conditions and from various stages in print. I only keep the Mint or "Like New" cards, but I've encountered a rather puzzling confliction.

While I've found nineteen #8 Promos, the nonholographic Mews, I've only come across a single holofoil print (#9). This single holofoil appears to be in pristine condition and I was very excited to find it. But when storing it in its respective sleeve next to #8, I noticed that the two purples appear to be two entirely different colors.

One Mew is much lighter, almost a pinkish purple, and is a similar color to all of the other Psychic cards I have. My holographic Mew, on the other hand, is a much deeper purple. Almost Indigo. Apart I wouldn't have ever noticed but side by side it almost made me worry that the holographic could possibly be fake, or has aged (albeit gracefully) to a point where it no longer resembles its original coloring.

I've only seen this once before, on two holographic Haunters from the Fossil set. So I guess my question is, why do some cards, with my only experience being Psychic, seem to be much darker colored, more subdued? Was it a change in printing? Is it a counterfeit card? Has it just aged?

It's really bothering me. As somebody who takes great pride in the appearance of his collection, having two identical cards (save the holofoil) next to each other that are for some reason two different colors is very distressing. Something seems wrong.

Usually WOTC printed cards that were holo in a darker shade than the non holo cards of the same set (especially promos, which were printed far apart). I just look at is as something that must have had to be changed to get it to work properly on the foil material. It's a common occurence, don't worry about it. The card should be just fine.
