The old Great Ball said that it could only be used if you have space on your bench. However the new translation for doesn't specify. Does that mean that I could play a Great Ball card with a full bench and it just fails?

Dont trust Japanese translations on their wordings. They are often altered for English play. Besides, you probably can't anyway, what with there be no possible way you gain anything from it, thus it'd be an illegal action.
I figured that would be how it is. It would be nice if it was altered.
That brings up another question though.

^Yes, because the deck is not public knowledge.
EastbayTrainer: You can also say there are no Pokemon in your deck after you search to get rid of cards, even if you just used Night Maintenence to put 3 back or something as your opponent technically doesn't know. =P
