I decided to get my cards out after a few years of hibernation. The last set I collected was Neo Destiny. Then I got some Unseen Forces and delta Species. I also, out of curiousity bought 4 packs of Great Encounters. I just want to know. What cards can't I use anymore. Is the Base Set banned or something? I really have no idea. A little help would be appreciated. :cool:
 
The Modified format for Premier tournaments is DP-on as of September 1st. So you may use cards from the following sets:
  • Diamond & Pearl
  • Diamond & Pearl – Mysterious Treasures
  • Diamond & Pearl – Secret Wonders
  • Diamond & Pearl – Great Encounters
  • Diamond & Pearl – Majestic Dawn
  • Diamond & Pearl – Legends Awakened
  • Diamond & Pearl Trainer Kit
  • POP Series 6 Promo Cards
  • POP Series 7 Promo Cards
  • All Black Star Promos numbered DP01 & higher
Additionally, new sets that come out in the next year are automatically tournament-legal as of their release date.

League play, on the other hand, is Unlimited, so you can use anything you want there.
 
What a genius way to get people to buy from the newer sets! Well. Any suggestions as to which of those sets are the best in terms of Eevee style deck making? I have always had a liking for Eevee. Doubt I will ever go to a Premier thing, but regular league play will let me use any card? Sweet.

Well, there is that, but rotation also significantly reduces the cost of entry for new (and returning) players. No one wants to shell out hundreds of dollars on the after-market for out-of-print cards just to be competitive, like certain other TCGs.

Majestic Dawn features the entire Eevee line, plus the two new DP Eeveelutions, Leafeon and Glaceon. Those are the only Eevees in the Modified format right now.

Well, remember, Premier tournaments include the more local Battle Roads and City Championships.
 
Given how good the new DP cards are, you'd probably buy them even if you could use Base Set-on.

As for the Eevees, yes, they're all in Majestic Dawn (although you may want to invest in other sets for other cards- Great Encounters has Claydol, one of the best, if not the best, cards for hand refreshment, and currently one of the more sought after cards in the format. Mysterious Treasures and Secret Wonders both have a number of great Supporters such as Bebe's Search and Roseanne's Research, as well as a bunch of great Pokemon. Legends Awakened is just awesome all around. The original DP is only good for Dusknoir and Magnezone, though, so don't bother with it.). Leafeon is an excellent card, and one of the better decks in the format, so it's a good choice if you want to get back into the game.
 
starter decks from mysterious treasures r very good to start out with in my opinion
or to start again
 
Any starter decks are great to start with/again.(DP-LA)
But if you know a little about deck building and strategy , I would go with a regular deck.
