Pokemon New idea for Pokemon game

Why can't nintendo simply give us a full 3D world? Can you just imagine a pokemon game with an open world like skyrim or Final Fantasy where the pokemon run free and npc's all rome the world hunting and training. There are hundreds of pokemon with many cities and gyms. Now this part can go either way for me; when the battle starts you turn it into an rpg style fight where you give the pokemon orders (like the battle system in FF13, not turn based because thats been done to death in pokemon and thats not how a fight would happen anyway) or you take control of the pokemon themselves and control it like a fight in DBZ tenkaichi style or Naruto ninja storms (fast paced with high impact and flashy moves). This game would sell like crazy,

I really think this is a great idea. I read this on a forum. I like everything except the battle system I think you should be put on a battlefield and then you can move freely around with the control stick of a 3ds. You could also have a targeting system of sorts that allows you to attack. With this idea you could also dodge and still have the HP bar and all other things like selecting attacks. Other than this that idea was great. Can you imagine freely moving around a full 3d world Like skyrims on a 3ds while having the freedom to do what you want but still be able to go on a quest. So what do you guys think? Should we suggest this idea any further? And I do not care how long this would take.

Also I didn't know where to put this thread so please move this if it is in the wrong thread.

As interesting as that is (not to mention all of my fanfics pretty much take things that way), that's simply not how Nintendo design their games. They keep things (relatively) simple on the outside and keep the mechanics relatively simple. As such, they avoid all of the ridiculous bugs and glitches of more complex games (such as Skyrim).

I reckon this could work though if Nintendo put their minds to it and buckled down for a while. The 3DS has shown some great quality games of the present and is ever evolving( like pokemon)

This could happen only in a spin-off. The battle system will not change drastically in the main series. I am for a bigger world, but not what was described. Go play PokéPark 2 or Pokémon XD if you want something different. (I have never played XD so it might be just what you want with the usual battle system, I don't know.)

Lost me at "not turn based".

The reason I play Pokemon is because at it's core, it is numbers. All of it is math. Turning it into some Tenkaichi wannabe would ruin competitive battling, and not only would it destroy why people found it fun in the first place, it wouldn't even be the same game. Not that change is bad, but really?

Other than that, a full 3D world without sliding sprites is exactly what everyone wants. With the power of the 3DS, it could happen. But there's no need to turn it into a fighting game; after all, there's PokePark for that (I think).

edi: desk you ninjaaaaa

rome the world
So you're saying that this game would take place in Poke-Rome?
You could also have a targeting system of sorts that allows you to attack.
That sounds like Spectrobes.
The main reason people like Pokemon is because it's a turn-based RPG. Game Freak is a Japanese company. Japanese RPGs tend to be less fast-paced, turn-based, repetitive, and involve a lot of grinding. Sound familiar? Sure they could do something like this in a spin-off game, but it'll probably never happen in a main series game. Personally, I'd love a large world like described, but I want the battling mechanics to be the same, and I'm sure many other fans would like this, too. Sure some people would like a more Fighter-like game, but it just wouldn't feel like Pokemon.

Mystery Dungeon kind of already did this, except more linear and still turned based. Mystery Dungeon was a steaming success and is still played a lot today.

Although I would really show interest if Bandai did something near to the original .hack games. The original .hack games were slow paced but G.U. improved on it and that took off. Taking the same engine, gameplay and style. It would be easy to think a big name like Pokemon would be able to sell something like that.

An Ultimate Ninja Storm would also be incredible, I loved that game.

Not only that, but the Japanese video gaming scene is still really into turn-based battling. It's western video gaming that's moving away from it.

Also, Pokémon XD played exactly like the handheld games when it comes to Pokémon battling, except that the default environment for battling was doubles instead of singles.

Actually I would too but yeah I think a 3d world would still be amazing.

*Throws first Pokemon "version" game for 3DS down in front of Reshiramdude*

There you go...3D....

They won't change the mechanics...I would ruin the game.

Zyflair, I'm gonna have to disagree. Although most of the games are that way not all of them are. Take LoZ for example. You can point in a direction and just walk that way forever in an open field and run into all different kinds of things. Pikmin is kind of the same way. It wasn't "Here is point A get to point B" it was more like "Here is point A...now go do what ever". I was gonna also mention Animal Crossing but that is kind of pushing it. The boundaries are too easy to access. Some of there games are wide expanses and they are usually very successful when they are. I can see a Pokemon game where you can just head in one direction for 2 hours to reach a mountain that WAS way off in the distance a while ago. A game that you can play the regular linear game or you can just go do what ever for how ever long you want...luckily we had PMD to do that for us kind of...you could go do what ever or you could actually do what you need to.

You must have misread my post. I only said that Ninetendo tends to have simple mechanics (and try as you might, Pikmin is pretty simple in concept/gameplay in comparison to many other RTS games). I never said anything about a straightforward questline/plot/movement.

I was thinking you were saying the environments were linear and not very expansive. That makes more sense :p.

Yes too linear. People say they should bring Zelda aspects into a 3d pokemon game but I think that nintendo should still keep there same strategy for the battle system and still do a Skyrim type thing.

Zelda games are their own thing.

if it looked as good as this, id be happy.

I'd like an open-world game like Pokepark Wii, but the ability to play as all Pokemon you befriend throughout the game.

i think they should make a pokemon game on xbox so every body online can make there own teams and get pokemone that would be fun

Please say you are trolling.

Pokémon is owned by Nintendo, so there won't be an Xbox (owned by Microsoft) game. The same thing (you just said) is possible on the DS, 3DS, Wii and Wii U. Or PC. In fangames like Pokémon Online.

It's funny because that's what Wi-Fi is for....
