Dud or possible stud? Any hope for the original God mon? I've tried to brainstorm any possible play for this card at all but there seems to be zero hope/niche for this relic. Any thoughts or hope people?

Mewtwo – Psychic – HP130

[P][P] Barrier: Prevent all effects of attacks, including damage, done to this Pokemon during your opponent’s next turn. If any of your Pokemon used “Barrier” during your last turn, you can’t use this attack.

It's a decent tech against threats that are weak to Psychic, but other than that, it's nothing special.

It's sole purpose in the current game is as a check to Mega Mewtwo. With a Fighting Fury Belt on it OHKO's any Mewtwo Y with 4 energy attached for a DCE, and cannot be OHKO'd back by anything less than a 4-energy Mewtwo Y due to it not hitting for weakness. Their out would be to set up a 3-energy Damage Change on you, but even then it's a dangerous move since that doesn't kill you with Psychic Infinity. If you don't have a Fury Belt you are vulnerable to a OHKO with minimum energy attached, but even then you're trading very favourably with a non-EX Basic. It is therefore a very valuable asset to any DCE deck that struggles against Mewtwo decks. The nice thing is that since it has 130 HP it doesn't lose to itself either, falling 10 short of being KO'd. Handy!

It may also serve as a stop check later into the format against high-energy Psychic attackers, one example potentially being Mew-EX (which gets OHKO'd if it has 2 energy attached, 3 if it has a Fury Belt on). Don't expect to use it against anything but Mewtwo Y for now though - the only other Psychic-weak attacker you may see is Alakazam, and even that is only 2HKO'd due to low energy requirements. So be prepared to discard it against everything except Mewtwo Y.

So yes, this Mewtwo has potential to punish Energy heavy, Psychic Weak, and especially Energy heavy Psychic Weak Pokémon, but is only particularly useful in the extremes and/or when its status as a reasonably big, non-Pokémon-EX allows it to trade favorably.

I dont think itll be useful just because were getting mew ex XY126 soon, and that pretty much does everything better. Obviously apart from the ability lock, but we should see something about that soon. I also think that it not being an EX is a huge plus if you just want a quick tech in your deck against mewtwo Y

Time will tell if itll become a tech like mewtwo ex next destinies

Does it? This new Mew-EX is actually a reprint of the original, right? If not then please disregard as I managed to fail at my fact checking. =P Otherwise...

M Mewtwo-EX (XY: BREAKthrough 64/162, 160/162) is famous for its "Psychic Infinity" attack, an attack that does not apply Weakness. Now its raw damage output is 10 damage plus 30 times the amount of Energy attached to both Actives. M Mewtwo-EX has 210 HP, so even with a Fighting Fury Belt, there needs to be seven total Energy between the two.
