Alright first try at a tourney report so work with me here guys, sorry about any grammatical errors, too lazy to proof read this whole wall of text thoroughly, feel free to yell at me through PM. Alright so I woke up at 7:30ish Saturday and drove up with my friends LORDY JONES, 6-Dimension, Donqueen 14 and others. About a 40 minute drive to Albuquerque, so we waste our time on our DS's.
Deck checks and everything go smoothly and we our ready to start our first round. I am a little nervous with my KingdraChamp because it was running inconsistently when I was play testing it the day before. The list was pretty much a basic KingdraChamp, except with 4 Seekers, I thought they would help my donk potential.
Round 1, Lucas F (BlazRayChomp): So pretty much this kid is one of the better players in our area and I was somewhat disappointed with being paired against him in the first round. I see my opening hand, it was something along the lines of Horsea, Rare Candy, Kingdra Prime, Water Energy, some other basic (Mespirt? IDK) and Collector. He calls heads and has to go first, he flips, Crobat G start. Excellent. He draws and passes. I draw, Rare Candy Horsea, Kingdra, Water Energy, Collector for a Horsea and 2 Uxies, I'm hoping for an Expert Belt, and I get it on the second drop and Dragon Steam for game. 1-0
Round 2: Jake B (Premade UD starter deck?): I remembered this kid from last BR's and an feeling somewhat confident, I don't remember much about this game except for a lone Horsea start and him has a Murkrow, Beldum start, I go first SmokeScreen then pass. He Pokemon Communications away a Metang for a Honchcrow, then goes for Astonish however flips Tails. I did something like Collector for 2 Uxies and a Machop, then get out a Kingdra Prime on the Uxie drops and kill his Murkrow. He attachs then passes and I Dragon Steam for game next turn. 2-0
Round 3: LORDY JONES (Promogon): OMG I'm playing my BFF He ends up going first if I recall, and I thi k I had an Uxie, Machop start, he attaches a DCE to his lone Porygon and passes. I don't remember how this turn worked, but I hit his Porygon for 20 and got out a Machoke, he draws and passes, I've never seem his deck run this poorly, I Top Deck into a Warp Point, switch into Machoke, attach a Fighting Energy and (insert Machoke's attack name) for the game, he blame his starting hand with 4 energy and his top decks into the other 2 energy in his deck on my witchcraft shuffling. 3-0.
Alright, I'm feeling OK knowing that if I win my next game I will top, and consider I know I'm playing SP next round and have only played 6 turns in the tournament so far that I should be able to top.
Round 4: ToasterstrudelFrenzy (BlazRayChomp): This kid always beats me, ALWAYS. I don't remember much about this game, but I get off to a lone Horsea start, Pokemon Communication, for Uxie, dump some cards, energies, etc, drop Uxie set up, Power Spray. I kinda forgot that could happen, but he sweeps me in two turns. 3-1
Despite my lose I have a higher opponent win percentage than my friend 6-D who also went 3-1 and I make the top 2 cut.
Top 2, game one: ToasterstrudelFrenzy (BlazRayChomp): Alright I don't remember much about these games at all, I tried to suppress the memories so you guys got to work with me here (again). Alright so this game is going pretty smooth, I don't remember most of it, but I know that I was sitting around, sweeping with the Machamp I set up T1/T2. He is very upset because both of his Luxray GLs are prize, however he gets out Blaziken to render my Kingdra Primes useless. I get off to a quick 2 or 3 prize lead with my E-Belted Machamp, until he retreats into Garchomp and Dragon Rush's me. I take out, he sets up Promocroak and gets the kill. It is about then when I notice my hand is absolute trash. I think I drew into a PONT, but nothing much better :/ I BTS a Machomp into a Machoke and pass. I have nothing to get the Machamp set up, he Leap Away's into Blaziken and Luring Flames Mespirt, I take burn 3 time the whole time drawing and passing with an occasional Seeker, while he sets up a Garchomp. He is able to DCE, E-Gain Garchomp, level up, bench crobat, kills Mespirt, Poketurns his Crobat benchs it, Flash bite to Machoke then Dragon Rush, his last two prizes he draws are his Luxrays, but he manages to sweep my field of Power Sprayed Pixies with things sitting on his bench. 0-1
Game 2: I go second by choice, he has a Bronzong G, Uxie start, I have a lone Uxie start. I Seeker, Water energy, E-Belt Uxie, I think Pokemon Communication away some stuff knowing I need a Spray Splash for game, I get I think two Uxie drops? I am able to get a Rare Candy and a Kingdra Prime in my hand. I have one drawer in my hand, I yell, "power of the draw" then play it and I was super pumped to see a Palmer's :F. From then on he sweeps me for the tourney.
Alright, I go home, go on the Beach and such with the thought that I had to build a new deck to play for tomorrow looming over me. Well at about 10 pm, after flipping through my binder for ideas and end up throwing together a Gengar, Nidoqueen, Mismagius Stormfront, I guess you could call it a MotherGengar, except with Mespirts and Judge… I play test once then go to bed.
My friends and I enter the coffee shop/card store the tournament is held in, I turn in my decklist (with an Arbok on it as opposed to the usual Vulpix, with looked pretty cash), and await the first pairings. (I can’t remember much about this day so work with me here.)
Round 1, Donqueen 14's little brother (Rampardos): I built both of the decks in this matchup, we all thought he would be a Junior for the tournament, but nope! So here I am round 1. I get out to a Gastly start, he gets a Sableye, thank god I didn’t tech in Special Darks He passes (forgets to impersonate). I draw Collector, for Nidoran, and some Uxies. I am able to get out a Nidoqueen with a Psychic energy and an Expert Belt on it, but I am unable to get one of my two switch with my Uxies. I Pitch Dark and pass. He doesn’t do much, except bench an Uxie or two and I am unable to draw into a energy or a Switch for around 4 turns, I get a Rescue Energy, retreat and sweep his field. 1-0
Round 2, Michael A. (I don’t even): Alright so my friend 6-D lost to this kid in the first round because of some sort of misplay and died draws, he said that he was playing a T-Tar. I am a little nervous because of my Gengar’s weakness. I get a Gastly start, I forget my bench, but we flip and he gets a Chinchou, Garchomp C start. Lolwut? I go first, attach a Psychic energy to Gastly and patch dark. He draws attaches a DCE to his active Garchomp and hits my Gastly for what he thinks is 30, but I correct him because of resistance. I get a Rare Candy with an Uxie I believe, Rare Candy Gastly, Gengar, Expert Belt, Rescue Energy and Poltergeist, he has a Rare Candy, an Interviewer Questions and some energy in his hand. 80 damage knock out. He draws and passes and I Poltergeist for game. 2-0
Round 3 Lucas F (Gyarados): Oh boy, I know this is going to be a hard matchup, he is still upset from the donk yesterday. I don’t remember how this game began, but he got off to a lone Regice start and went first. I am able to set up a Gengar SF slightly after he gets out a Gyarados on his bench, and I Shadow Room it for 30. I can’t remember, much except me killing a Gyarados and him killing my Gengar with an Expert Belt Gyarados, I flip heads on Fainting Spell, but it hit his hand when he was picking up a prize, and he calls the judges for interference. The flip stands. I go out into Gastly and he goes into Sableye. I know that he has a Gyarados in his hand from a recent Bebe’s and a Pokemon Rescue because I saw it with a Poltergeist. I get a Nidoqueen out, attach a Psychic to Nidoqueen and pitch dark. I Pitch Dark him for several turns, not really knowing what I am doing. I set up a Gengar and he setting up… nothing, he almost recovered his Carp with Combee, which I had forgot about, however his bench was full, he tried impersonating Seekers, but one was prized. I draw into a Judge. I BTS my Gastly into Gengar, Judge, retreat into E-Belted Nidoqueen, attach a rescue to it and kill his Sableye. He Pokemon Rescues a Carp :F gets a Gyarados out. He Expert Belts and hits me for 110, I draw, my hand is full of energy, I attach and Ruthless Tail for 120. He kill my Nidoqueen, I rescue energy it BTS it back, attach on of the many Psychic in my hand, retreat my Gengar into Nidoqueen and Mega Punch for game.
Round 4 LORDY JONES (Promogon): Here we go again! I’m feeling confident, because as he said it “I was running his counter deck” cause of Mismagius. I kill his attach Porygon on the first turn, which he attached a DCE to. He struggles to set up, gets a Promomgon on his bench, I kill it with two Shadow Rooms. He gets another Porygon, Lv.X I Shadow room once, next turn, retreat in to Mismagius and discard 4 of his TM’s for the kill. He goes for the Dialga G sweep, I retreat Mismagius into Gengar (I attach a Rescue early game) bring up Gengar and Shadow Room Azelf, I keep level down his DGX, but his is Expert Belt and has resistance so I was going for his bench, I was about to kill Azelf until he said “please don’t Poltergeist me for a million“, or something along those lines. I do and get the kill. 4-0
Well undefeated through Swiss, and LORDY JONES is with me and top 2. We eat at KFC, because we requested a Lunch Break. I almost go into the Dollar Store next door, but decide to show up to Top Cut on time instead.
Top 2: LORDY JONES, Game 1: So after a very long time of shuffling we draw our opening hands, Gastly, Nidoran start with 2 drawers! Woot! He scratches, and I get another drawer. I go second, he has a lone Porygon, double drawer, for a switch and a Rare Candy, collector, for a Mespirt, an Uxie and a Gastly, Switch into Nidoran, Pokemon Communication away Mespirt, get Nidoqueen, Rare Nidoran, Nidoqueen, Expert Belt, Psychic energy and Mega Punch for game.
Game 2: He goes second, I have an Uxie start, he has a Porygon, I draw bench Nidoran, and Psychic Restore for 20 and leave Uxie. He draws, and passes? His hand must be awful, I’ve never seen LJ, pass going second. I Psychic energy to Nidoran and get some Uxies, hoping to get a Rare Candy, (Nidoqueen is in my hand) or an Expert Belt, I get a Rare Candy, retreat and Mega Punch for game.
So wow, three turn in Top 2, the judges said it was a 10 minute match, however they said 5 minutes of it was shuffling . All around great Cities, both days.
Props: Good Trades, good pulls, 2nd and 1st place, force feeding Donqueen 14 olives after top 2, Burger King, dollar store.
Slops: Running such an inconsistent deck the first day, not getting to play fair games with LJ.
