New OR/AS Super Secret Base Video [7/14]

I can tell already I'm going to be that guy who just has a ton of pokedolls in his gym. >_>

I'm going to make a maze out of pokedolls. Spheal with it.

Anywho, this is cool and all but not very informative for non-Japaneses...

This trailer was just flat out better than ours when it comes to showing off the SSB play, and I must say, Im pretty excited for it now. ^_^

However, my one concern I still have is the item limit. Im not exactly positive on how many bytes of data a QR code can hold, but that might give some insight into how many items can be placed- which Im hoping is at least 100. If its any less, it might be difficult designing truly unique "gyms".

Oof, took me a bit to realize you meant Super-Secret Base instead of Super Smash Bros. That's going to get confusing. :X

QR codes are apparently simpler than I thought: Each image is a grid of pixels, with each pixel counting as one bit. Looking at this example QR code from the ORAS site:

july_p26_07_bbp.jpg

I count 161 pixels by 161 pixels, which is 25921 pixels total. 25921 bits / 8 = 3,240 bytes, which roughly equate to one character each. That's how much space we're dealing with here.

My guesses for how much space the stuff inside an SSB takes up:

Location of SSB - 16 bytes
Data on the base's owner + other "gym" trainers - 200 bytes
Team of base's owner - 900 bytes (boxed Pokemon in Gen 5 apparently took up 136 bytes. I'm assuming trainer Pokemon are counted as boxed, and that there's some rounding up here or there because it's Gen 6)
Teams of two other "gym" trainers - 1200 bytes (assuming they have four Pokemon each)
Personalized greetings for visitors - 350 bytes

That leaves 574 bytes. Let's say each decoration takes up 15 bytes of space--that's 38 decorations total. Way less than your 100+, but to be fair, where would you put all those decorations in a cramped SSB? :p

Anyway, the music. Nice stuff. Not as flute-y as the old Fortree, but I'll get used to it.

Hum....will we be able to choose if the base is to be used as a base per se or a gym? The music from Fortree & secret bases plays in the first minutes and then changes when showing how to make your own sort of gym, so perhaps that may not be just background music for the video but actually a glimpse that we'll be able to choose the use of the base and perhaps be able to place and use more decorations when having a base gym.

I'm still hoping GF introduces themed decorations and different colors because I really want green bricks and stuff to match my Leaf Rangers' base! :D

Yay, Wailord doll is spouting water!

Yeah, after reading that Nintendo was using Smash Bros. hype for promoting this video (or some other from yesterday?), every time I see SSB I think of Bros. and not Super Secret Bases! =S

I subscribe that opinion regarding the music!

It would be funny to do the same as the Copycat in Saffron (HG/SS) and use our own Pokémon to trick others into thinking they were dolls! :D:p

Sorry, probably should have just flat out said Super Secret Bases, or just SBs. ^_^ Thanks for the in depth analysis of possible QR code and data usage!

While 100 decorations does seem like it would be cramped, we dont yet know how big our bases can be, and I suppose I was just hoping they would be large enough to fit 100 lol.

I know that, in the originals, bases could have multiple segments with small pathways between them, for a max of 3 rooms I think?(could just be 2 but Im a little hazy- havent played R/S/E since 2004) And it looks like this is returning in the form of higher areas in which stairs are needed(or maybe not needed). With 3 rooms per base, I think its safe to assume we could fit 50 objects comfortably, especially with smaller items like starter dolls or warp pads.

Using one of the pre-release screen shots, I counted 14 or maybe 15x6 tiles in one of the leafy SBs, which is a total of 84 or 90 tiles. Thats only a one room base though. The upstairs area of another screen shot (cave) is 69 tiles, which I would think the lower area would be close to the same size or slightly larger, making for a much larger overall base- lets assume a total of 150 tiles. I would think that 50 objects would be a decent amount to allow in a space that big.

Another thing I just thought of, is what if the complexity or size of the QR code changes depending on which base its based on? This could mean the amount of items is based on base size as well, or even perhaps, each item counts as an amount of tiles and you get so many tiles to use per base? I know its all just speculation at this point until we get more information, or if someone could glean some of this stuff from the Japanese trailer that can read the language.
