New Player - Large Card Colllection But No Idea What To Build

Hello! I'm a new player to the actual physical card game (I've played the online game to get myself used to everything), and recently picked up a lot of cards. I just went through and counted up what all I received. I'm not certain what to start building a deck around. My first request would be for the experts here to take a look at what I've got and make some suggestions for what I might build around with what I have.

I've listed them here on Google sheets: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1j3vYI87vFzP4aOAHYiF3nnlq1E0eWuWPcDTIB1XEN4k/edit?usp=sharing

I've seen a lot of talk about using EX cards as the basis for a deck, but I have a lot of cards that I think might be alternatives to build around. I know a few EX might be okay, but I don't want to lock myself into only EX-themed decks.

I've got cards from Primal Clash, Roaring Skies, a lot from Ancient Origins, some Breakthrough, Fates Collide, and a good start on Steam Siege.

I'd like to have some ideas, and then start going through to build up a deck that I can then test out and work on before taking it to a local league. Thanks!

It looks like you have enough of a baseline to start building Mega Rayquaza, which will be a good deck in the next standard format. I would focus on obtaining a 4-4 line of Mega Ray if you can. There are literally hundreds of Mega Ray lists online, and I've never built one before, so I can't help you there.

As for some good Mega Rayquaza lists, I would recommend checking out this deck skeleton. It's a bit of an older version and it won't be any good for the 2017 format, but it's a good starting point (plus, it lists some sweet articles!). You could also check out winning or popular Nationals lists involving Mega Rayquaza found on the Official Pokemon Site, such as this one (hit the drop down - it's the last deck on the list). Once you've created a full 60-card decklist, I suggest posting it in the Deck Garage for further, more specific advice. (If you do, let me know, because I'll be glad to help more specifically. =) )

I'm doing some research right now on the deck list. Is it alright to post in Deck Garage if I don't actually have all the cards yet? I'm assuming so because it would be smarter to not get anything I don't currently have until I've finalized the deck, right? (I'm also assuming it would be smart to also post the link for what I currently have, in case there's a backup I could use until the rest of the final deck get there?)

No, you don't have to actually own the cards in real life to post in the Deck Garage - I rarely have any of the cards whenever I post a decklist. :p
It is also smart to have a pretty much finalised deck before you start obtaining the cards. You may also like to test it out on an online simulator, such as the official PTCG Online, so you know that you are happy with how it feels.
