Hi all,

You probably get this all the time and I do apologise but I've not long been playing / collecting and I'm looking for some good budget decks to build and play with :)

Currently I'm playing with a Fight Alone Lucario deck which I really like but just want another couple decks I can play also because variety is the spice or life after all :D

I have the likes of VS seeker, N, Trainer mail etc but not shaymins sadly. All recommendations are welcome and appreciated. Just want something semi competitive on a tight budget.

Thanks in advance.

Fight Alone Lucario is a great budget option, so it's pretty cool that you're already playing that. @PMJ has recently written an article listing four great budget deck ideas that are probably the most competitive options currently, and you can find the article here. Perhaps there is something that you're interested in there? Otherwise, you could look at the Deck Garage for some ideas.

Thanks for the reply, hugely appreciated.
I've read the article and looked over the deck lists and the one that appeals to me is the Greninja BREAK deck (kind of reminds me of my old YGO days lol). The only question I have is it going to survive the next rotation? Still not not 100% how rotation works lol I know it's makes your play newer sets.

Rotation just happened last month, which means your deck would survive at least another year in standard format. Current standard format is Primal Clash to the current set. Prior to the most recent rotation it was XY to current set so about four sets were dropped if I recall. No one really knows what the next rotation will be, but again, it won't happen till next fall so you're good for another year for sure.

Regarding Greninja Break, Dive Ball is in Primal Clash. Since that's the oldest set of the current standard format I would venture to say that set will be dropped come next rotation, which means that the deck will be decidedly weaker, unless there is a reprint or a new card that does something similar. However, since it's still a very good deck in the current format I would recommend giving it a try if it interests you. Next rotation Sun and Moon will be out so who knows, maybe they will make the next standard format SM on. (I wasn't around when BW transitioned into XY so I don't know how a full generation rotation is handled)

Also, just because something rotates out of standard doesn't mean you can give it a try in expanded!

Thanks for the reply and thanks for clearing that up for me.

I only have the option of playing standard at the store I play at as that's the most popular format and I didn't want to waste money building a deck I'd only be able to play for a few months but that obviously isn't the case.

I've started building a Greninja deck now let's hope it goes well.

Also, something to consider is that some leagues allow proxies. I'm also playing a Greninja Break deck, but only have one Break so far. I proxy the other Break by using a flipped card. Some people print out images and cut them out, but I personally don't like doing that. As long as my proxy is a flipped card (Or substituted card, I subbed Ultra balls for Dive balls before I had a full count of Dive), I feel like I still need to get the real one. If I were to proxy the actual image I'm nervous I might feel like I no longer need to get the card, especially since someone at my league will let me borrow a Break or two if I need it for a tournament. I'm just waiting to pull more from a pack or for my local store to get one in stock via a single. I'll wind up ordering one online eventually if it takes too long to find one, but I always try to buy from my local store when I can.

That can be a simple way to finish off the deck without gimping it with weak filler cards. It obviously isn't an option for tournament level play since proxies aren't allowed there, but for casual play most people I've encountered don't care. Also, it really only works for one or two cards. More than that and it could get too complicated on which cards are doing what.

One other thing on proxies, personally I always ask the opponent if it's ok that I'm using and let them know what the proxy is ahead of time. I've never had one say no don't use them, but out of courtesy it's necessary to let them know what is a proxy. That prevents them from thinking you just used a flipped card and made it whatever would be best in that situation.

Sorry for the late reply.

I also fear proxies would make me feel less need to get the actual card lol I'm not far off my Greninja deck now, just need the BREAK''s now like yourself xD But I've got my Lucario deck to tie me over until then ;)
