Wow, next year marks the 20th Anniversary of Sailor Moon in Japan and to cap it off with a new Anime Series as well. Oddly enough growing up in the last decade watching Toonami I remember watching the Sailor Moon Dub and I've been curious as to why the Anime itself never got it's Dub finished like Dragonball Z did when FUNimation took the helm.

Sailor Moon was one of those Anime/Manga series that set the standard for Magical Girl Anime. Nowadays most Modern Anime based on that genre are nothing more than a mockery of itself especially with load fulls of fanservice, loli, and all that junk that had plagued the Anime/Manga Industry in the last decade. As the Canadian Rock Band Barenaked Ladies put it in their hit single One Week, "Sailor Moon's got the boom, Anime, it always makes me think the wrong thing."

I must say, out of all the people who could have possibly made this thread, I didn't expect you to.
...I'll check it out if I'm interested. I was never really into Sailor Moon in the first place, but I could see how others likes it.

Sailor Moon was the first "real" anime I saw. lol
After that came Pokémon.

I was a Sailormoon fan from way back, but I haven't much attention to anime at all since, uh, Gurren Lagann. A friend told me about this, though, and I'm super-psyched for it, oddly enough.

What's most interesting to me is the phrasing that ANN uses: "a new anime adaptation of Takeuchi's Sailor Moon manga". As far as I know (and ANN seems to corroborate), Takeuchi hasn't made any new SM manga since StarS, which was already anime-fied. This leads me to believe that either A) it will be a retelling of part of the manga (probably the earlier arc(s)), or B) an entirely new plot line made just for the anime that is simply based on Takeuchi's work.

I'm really hoping for A, because I think a modern retelling of the story could do it such better justice. While I love the Sailormoon anime it was... a lot of filler, a lot of fluff. You could easily cut out over 70% of the episodes and still get the full story and all important characterization. The manga story is much darker and more streamlined, and with the "current" trends in anime (as opposed to the trends back in the early 90s), I think it could be done well as an actual anime story told episode style, instead of cutting the whole chunk into bite-sized, monster-of-the-week episodes.

B is really touch and go and depends on how the whole thing is handled. It would be nice in that it would be totally new, but if they just re-use all the series-lengthening tropes that the original series did, it'll probably just end up being boring.

I'll still end up watching it either way, though...

Oh i love this anime! This is actualy the first or second (I dont remember if pokemon was first) anima I ever watched. I only ever saw it in Japanesse, but i really thought it was a good anima. I even have a lunch box with Sailor Moon and her black cat on it. It trully brings back alot of good memories.

The Sailor Moon Anime never got its dub finished due to poor ratings and fanbase outrage. This is because the anime was so heavily edited that the a lot of the story was changed from the original Japanese version. I mean, it's a fact that Anime in general isn't 'politically correct' to American audiences, so when the Walt Disney Company gets hold of an anime, it's going to be bad. After the cancellation of the original English dub, Toei Animation (if I remember correctly) bought the rights to Sailor Moon and made it closer to the original Japanese dub, albeit there were still a few dub edits.

I hope this new Sailor Moon series stays for the most part uncut with the original Japanese character names, and also removes most of the filler like Dragon Ball Z Kai did.

When I was a boy I needed that naked transformation filler to get through my day.

This is the internet. Anime websites that offer streaming with subtitles exist. You can always go to those if you're not satisfied with the dub. The originals are generally superior anyway.

This is why we can't have good anime anymore. It's fans are too cheap to buy it so they just bootleg it and the only thing they buy are the eroge figure merchandise.

Sailor Moon was "okay" but for some odd reason it sort of became a guilty pleasure the more I watched it along with the other shows on Toonami years ago. I was more into Dragonball Z, Ronin Warriors, ThunderCats, ReBoot, Tenchi Muyo!, Outlaw Star, Big O, G Gundam, and Yu Yu Hakusho which Bleach is based off of.

The Internet and Anime Websites that Stream Episodes with Subtitles have killed any chance for Toonami to make a comeback nowadays, I don't see how it is a comeback when it's still just Adult Swim's Saturday Evening Anime Block. Poor ratings are going to kill it again anyway cause of how popular the Internet is and Television is lagging behind miserably.
