Ruling [New To Pokemon TCG] Evolving Across sets

Hi everyone, so I'm new/ coming back to Pokemon. I use to collect Pokemon cards when I was a kid but now I'm trying my hand at the trading card game.

So my question is about evolving. I understand how it fundamentally basic => stage 2 => ...
I was wondering pokemon an evolution chain have to be from the same set? Or could I take a Chikorita (Generations RC1/RC32) and evolving it in to a Bayleef (BREAKpoint 2/122) .

The only thing that matters is the name of the card. Bayleef evolves from Chikorita, regardless of either card's set, type, etc.
