NEW way to play pokemon online

I just stumbled across http://www.playtcg.com/ I've only been able to play solitaire games because nobody has been in the lobby but this website is amazing. Definitely better than RedShark IMO. It's definitely a cool platform to use until the official online TCG gets it's act together.

This website just opened to the public and I would love to see some more people playing over there.

I don't think it's in beta anymore. Everything seemed to work perfectly for me when I was on there yesterday. The only thing you can't do is manipulate your opponent's deck (chatot g) or place cards on the bottom of your deck (psychic restore).

It looks like it's been updated significantly since whenever they posted the how-to video.

oh? to be honest, the Pokemon TCG online seems to shadow over this
thats also beta, but the fact that you have an online collection and can make trades with other people are quite appealing

thats where i play now

Actually the fact that you have to have on online collection and make trades is what I HATE about the official online TCG. Why would I want to have to buy online boosters and trade for online cards when I already own the cards in real life? If I'm playing online I just want to be able to test easily and quickly. I don't want to have to try to find all the cards for the deck that I already have in real life.

its because you play competitively against other players.
otherwise, everyone would just run the top meta decks and there would be no real sense of achievement.

yes, you can view it as a money making scheme, but we all buy cards anyways, so why not also allow access to a virtual collection where your not bound by physical conditions and can play anyone anywhere anytime?

He's basically saying that he'd rather spend money to get limited cards on the official simulator rather than using anything you want on the unofficial ones.

That doesn't make sense to me but I guess he's entitled to his opinion. I would rather have access to all the cards for free than to a limited number of cards that I have to pay for.

well, since im already paying for cards, i just view this as an added bonus. i have a physical collection, as well as the option to have a virtual collection where i can also trade and play competitively

You can play competitively with playtcg.com and RedShark.

what he's trying to say is that there is a higher personal satisfaction in owning an actual collection, be it virtual or physical. that may sound like a contradictory statement, but not when you keep into account that the virtual collection "costs money" since you're buying packs anyways, just buy the packs at hobby shops instead of mega marts. then you get your virtual collection alongside the physical one.

this may be a move for pokemon to REALLY go back to its base set days. where hobby shops had pokemon packs up the wazoo. but since the current masters are most likely the same people who played when it was new, the hobby shops can't get away with $10 per pack like they used to since all the masters tend to buy individual cards online, or get booster boxes making boosters cost about $2 a piece.

I agree with it being better to be able to only use cards you buy as far as testing your own decks. I never playtest a deck I make in RS unless I have the means to actually make it.

Edit: I thought he was talking about http://www.pokemontcg.com/ at first.. lol

Nonono, you use playtcg and RedShark to TEST decks before you decide to purchase the cards.

That still won't change the fact that simulators EXCEPT Pokemon TCG Beta should be used to playtest.

I playtest what I have, then figure out what it needs to work better, trade for what I need, test again, and repeat as necissary. To me, there is no point in testing something that you might not be able to actually run come tournament time. I don't buy individual cards. Ever. Which is probably why rotation to me isn't as aggrivating as it is to others.

So...hold up. When Pokemon TCG Online finally launches in full, we'll have to buy cards?! What is this nonsense!? I thought it was a place where you could just test your decks and play with people when you couldn't play with friends or if you want more variety.

Thats what a lot of people thought. But apparently you'll need to create your own collection online too by opening packs and trading cards. Lame.
