How awesome is the Amoongus in Next Destinies?!

At my local pre release, I was one of 2 people who didn't pull an EX card ( :( ).

However, by placing Foongus on the bench, using Level Ball or "find a friend" to locate Ammongus and keeping it in my hand, I used Sporprise to cripple the defending Pokemon EX and then ko'd it through poison & confusion damage and 2 successful Rising Lunge attacks.

I completely love this card, and will use it in the very next deck I build :D

Devolution Spray needs to be played at a very specific time though, as you remove the conditions, don't forget.

Since this is competitive based (especially when it comes to devolution spray), this belongs in the Competitive Collection.

Moved.

I think he means to devolve Amoongus to use Sporprise again. :p

Unfortunately, what's good in a Prerelease is rarely good in a competitive format. The card certainly has its uses, but with Catcher, Switch, and Junk Arm in the format, it's not only very hard to setup and/or use "Find a Friend", but it's also to make the Special Conditions "stick".

Here's a thought.

Besides the obvious Seeker strategy to reuse Sporprise constantly, you can combo it with that new Ninetales (when it comes out) and hit at 120 for just {R}.
For now, just Seeker spam it.

I don't know why people call it a less-than-ideal Magmorter. For me, I'm happy that I can Confuse EX's. If they flip tails on their attack they just gave up a prize card. And the poison is just a bonus, and a free PlusPower when I need it.

it's a worse magmortar because it leaves Houndoom prime or torkoal as the only source of burn. Roserade + amoongus overlap conditions, so it makes hitting that 150/170 with leafeon/ninetails that much harder, or at least flippier. Plus, now that 2-3 switch have practically become staples due to catcher, if you can't get the ohko chances are your opponent will just get out of active and drop the conditions.

Roserade+unown covered poison/confusion fine and reliably, burn is now a pain to obtain.

I see now. I thought that it was a worse Magmorter because people thought Burn is a better Special Condition than Poison, where I favor Poison because its an auto 10 and not as flippy as Burn.

Run that Torkoal that has a drop power with 50% chance of burn, if you really really want to hit 170. (KILL THE MEWTWO)

{R} for 120 will kill most things, though. However, decks like these have a lot of Pokemon that are relatively fragile, so be careful with how you choose to build it.

50% is still flippy and not at all reliable. At that point it would be better to set up 1-2 Houndooms on the bench so you don't have to waste seeker/SSUs on torkoal. And 180 (170+poison) for {R} is pretty key in this format, if you can hit that consistently you ko any EX, which is more than you can say for hitting 130 for {R}. Everything in this deck is 100 hp or less so you are getting KO'd constantly, taking fast KOs is key otherwise all your resources will be dead.

Maybe Espeon Prime (as long as it is in format) is pretty good tech, because after all the deck doesn't need too much Pokemon (as free prizes). After all Mewtwo EX is serious opponent, so why not to use less resources to kill and even faster? :>

I don't get why people are hyping Amoongus with Devolution Spray. Amoongus doesn't go to your hand with Devolution Spray - it gets discarded. I've provided a scan below for you guys to see.

If I had to guess based on the picture, it appears that it MIGHT be Hyper Devolution Spray. It has that "gun-like" appearence to it like the original Hyper Devolution Spray. Fingers crossed that it actually is so, but in any case, even just normal Devolution Spray can still help. Just not as much as the "Hyper" version.

In any regard, despite the fact that I'm an Eeveelution nutcase (thus I love Leafeon UD), I don't think that Amoonguss is going to help poor Leafeon UD's chances at becoming more competitive. There's far easier and much more accessible means of doing 110+ damage. Now if there were an easy-to-use burn status inflictor that DIDN'T require a coin flip (I'm looking at YOU, Flareon star!), then we'd be talking serious pwnage with Leafeon or Ninetales.

I have very little faith left in the card creators lol. However, I do believe they're smart enough to give us Hyper Devolution Spray as that really helps evolutions, which is necessary for the game at this point. Regular Devolution Spray is just such a terrible card that I really doubt they would reprint it, especially when they have the option to do Hyper Devolution Spray instead. The Ninetales and Froslass-thing also point towards Hyper Spray.

You guys are looking at this all wrong. Do you know how fun this is with Zebstrika?

Yeah tell me about it, here's a sample decklist already:

Pokemon (21)

4-4 Zebstrika ND
3-3 Eelektrik NV
2-2 Amoonguss ND
2 Mewtwo EX
1 Cleffa

Trainers/Supporters (27)

4 Pokemon Collector
4 Professor Oak's New Theory
4 Copycat
4 Junk Arm
4 Level Ball
3 Pokemon Catcher
2 Seeker
2 Switch

Energies (12)

10 {L}
2 Rescue Energy

Deck Total: 60

Some people considered Weavile UD for Claw Snag over Amoonguss to discard a Switch in their hand so they can't retreat If you've already Disconnected them with Zebstrika. I just can't get over how mean of a bench sniper Zebstrika ND is, Lightning Crash is just nasty If you can get 3 Eelektrik's benched for a triple Dynamotor. :D
