Nigel's Derpy Delicious 2nd Place Battle Roads Report with Bearplume and a Floatzel.

Last Night (Friday), I was up until 12:30 AM trying to prepare for Battle Roads. I had stayed home from school "sick" (There was no homework the previous night, or that day) so I could practice for Battle Roads. Going against myself, I had made my Bearplume list kill everything in our meta (Mostly Reshiphlosion, Reshiboar, The Truth, and Gothiclus). One problem I had was decking myself out, so I decided that for the laughs of it, I would take out a Cheren and add a 0-1 line of Floatzel Unleashed into my deck, just so I could say that I've done that .
I eventually fell asleep last night, only to wake up an hour later, thinking that I woke up just in time for Battle Roads. I then found out that it was only 1:30 in the morning, so I decided to play a few hours of Cave Story until I fell asleep. I did just that, and woke up at 8:30 in the morning, with 90 minutes until Battle Roads registration started. Luckily, Caribou Coffee was open, so my dad took me there and I got a large Pumpkin Spice Latte with a shot of Cappuccino. After that, I was driven to Battle Roads, where I had no idea that I would get second place.
At Battle Roads, Adam (leader of the MN Pokemon Forums) and I talked a lot, and we traded some stuff (I traded my FA Tornadus and something else to him for a Donphan Prime) until pairings were posted. I was REALLY nervous for these Battle Roads, as I really wanted a Victory Cup. Eventually, pairings were posted, and I started to get lucky.

Round One:

Bye.

1-0

Round Two

This guy that I was going against was running a completely foiled out Reshiphlosion. I started with a Reshiram and he also started with a Reshiram. He kept passing as he set up his bench. I was passing, too, to set up my bench. I ended up setting up faster than him, and one turn three I had a benched Beartic, 2 Vileplumes, Reuniclus, and Reshiram. That turn I got set up, I retreated to my Beartic and KO'd his active Reshiram, which had a rescue energy attached to it. He kept bringing Reshirams active, and I kept KOing them until I only had two prize cards left to draw. Right after I KO'd his last Reshiram, I forgot to damage swap Beartic's damage to my benched Reshiram, and he beat it. Earlier in the game, I had discarded my other Beartic with a Professor Juniper. I then used Collector to get out another Cubchoo, and when I used it, I looked to see if I had my last Beartic in my deck. It was in my prize cards. I then knew that I had a 50-50 chance of winning, so I played Cubchoo on my beched, attached a DCE to my Active Reshiram, and used Outrage for the knockout on his Reshiram. I drew a prize card...it wasn't the Beartic. I then scooped because I had nothing else I could attack with left. My last prize card was that Beartic.
Overall, it was still a really good and fun game, and it was by far my best game of the day.

1-1

Round Three (Final Round)

This round was versus that Lucario starter deck from Call of Legends. I plowed through it as the kid who played it watched in terror (Muahahahaha I'm so evil). Then a judge walked by, and noticed that he had no prize cards set out. He told me to draw three prize cards because we each had three turns, and he didn't have any prize cards out still. I did that, and won the game (I would have won against a starter deck, anyways :p )

2-1

-----------------------------

I didn't think I'd do that good with a 2-1 score. I ended up trading some bulk Japanese commons to a guy for his 3rd place Victory cup for my Victini collection.

Then the judge called out names of the final standings. I wasn't called for 4th or 3rd place, so I didn't think I'd do that well. She eventually called out, "Second Place: Gabe Cherniske! Come get your 4 packs and Victory Cup!".

I was stunned. I really didn't think I'd do that great, but I ended up getting second place! I guess I got pretty lucky after all! Thank you precious imported Victini deckbox and Victini sleeves! You really are lucky!

Another thing worth noting: I pulled a Gothitelle (Ability) and Catcher in my packs I won. :)

--------------

Pros:
- Got Second Place
- Got a Victory Cup
- Got caffeine before the tourney.
- Adam actually won a match in his first tourney ever.
- Floatzels are amazing and lucky.
- Pulled a Gothitelle
- Pulled a Catcher
- Made some new friends (T, you're always my best frand, though.)

Cons:
- T wasn't there :(
- T still wasn't there :(
- T still still wasn't there :(
- T still still still wasn't there :(
- Adam was 55 cents short of getting the caffeine he wanted.

3 prizes for 3 turns? I wish I could've gotten that lucky. Two opponents I faced forgot their prizes, and they only got a prize penalty. One of them used a PONT AND an Eeeeeeek in the same turn (It was the start of his T2 that he forgot his prizes). I'll tell you about my BRs in a profile comment, but I'm glad you did well, and better than I have.

Nice job!

"Second Place: Gabe Cherniske! Come get your 4 packs and Victory Cup!".

It says your names Nigel.

What did you win/loose against, just out of curiosity?

Wins:
Randomstuff.dek Can't remember much other than the fact the deck I faced was bad.
Magneboar: Due to player lost zoning too many energy instead of attacking with Reshiram.

Losses:
Beartic/Vileplume: Tough match-up plus energy issues
Reshiphlosion: Energy issues
Zekrom variant: started with 2 Solosis.:(

2 deck shuffles without prizes and only a Prize Penalty? Apparantly they aren't as strict down there. Even though it's a BRs I'd do either multiprize or GL for that situation. the other one it depends on what all happened prior to discovery of no prizes.

^Yes, I was shocked too. Even though Florida is a lot tougher than Minnesota, there were a lot of newer players, so I think they wanted to have them have an actual game.
