Expanded Ninja Box: Sun & Moon Anti-Meta Deck

Laurier_Ex

In this tread i will talk about the different ways of beating the current meta with pokemon combos trough the Ninja Box. For those not familiar with the Ninja Box deck i recommend taking a look at Professor K's youtube video for the basic idea behind the rainbow Ninja Box.

Ninja boy as a lot of expandable cards that can be replaced to adapt more to the meta you are currently dealing with. Ninja Box is for experimented players because this decks allows for a lot of neat tricks i will try to go trough in this post. So here comes my current deck list. Playing for around 70-75% with it right now.

If people see any interest in the deck and i get enough feedback i will try to make some videos and post them on Youtube.

Ok so lets break down the deck:

----------------------

##Pokémon - 19

* 2 Shaymin-EX ROS 77: Self explanatory, this is the sushi master as Dark
Integral would call it. The beauty with integrating Shaymin into this deck is that it can be recycled via Ninja Boy. This way you can use Shaymin more than twice.

* 1 Tauros-GX SUM 100: You get enough damage counter on your pokemon? Time to wreak havoc by using Ninja Boy on your current active pokemon to bring down Tauros and OHKO your opponent.

* 1 Comfey GRI 93: This pokemon is overlooked. You are playing against any deck abusing status effects? Ninja Boy a benched pokemon into Comfey to get rid of it. Lapras-Gx will get easier with this little guy.

* 1 Machamp-EX AOR 90: Another OHKO option. Combine this with comfey on your bench and you dont get confused. Neat trick to make multiple OHKO going.

* 1 Entei AOR 15: Entei is mainly in the deck to face pokemons weak to fire. It allows for OHKO on pokemons like Decidueye and Solgaleo.

* 1 Victini GRI 10: Victini is there to combine with Regice, Electrike, Pinsir and Trubbish. In difficult times, you can stall your opponent for a while with paralyze.

* 1 Pinsir SUM 6: If your opponent cannot bench more than 1 pokemon to start with, he will be in trouble if you ever get Victini out to flip twice. Can come usefull against decks like Sylveon who play few basic pokemons. This is one win condition that can't be overlooked.

* 1 Electrike PRC 60: Very usefull against mill and energy denial decks. This one overcomes Sableye decks by himself. You bench that little guy and stack energies on it. He cannot be lysandre onto the active thanks to the ancient trait. A lot of people get fooled and will use an hammer or Lysandre just to realize they wasted a card. Regirock XY promo would be better i guess but that one is harder to get your hands on.

* 1 Jolteon-EX GEN 28: There is no word to describe this card. Won so many games with it.

* 1 Magearna-EX STS 110: The ultimate counter to fairy decks. Also very usefull against pokemons like Dampra-Gx and other damage effects pokemon.

* 1 Tapu Lele-GX GRI 137: You really need to grab a Ninja Boy one way or another. Also helps against Psychic decks and has no weakness.

* 1 Garbodor GRI 51: I only play one copy of these. It is usefull later in the game so it does not matter as much if it is prized as it will become most probably available in the late game. Wins the trade race.

* 1 Garbodor BKP 57: Not one you will be using that often but could come handy against Decidueye or Greninja matchups. I usually played Giratina Promo in conjonction with Glaceon and Leafeon to destroy Greninja decks (Took a game 6 prizes to 0 the other day by pulling neat tricks) but since i used * 1 Garbodor GRI 51, i though i could switch and go for * 1 Garbodor BKP 57 instead since it helps in more matchups.

* 1 Glaceon-EX FAC 20: Counters every evolution decks and comes in handy in a lot of situations.

* 1 Keldeo-EX LTR 45: For the free retreat with float stone of course, nothing else.

* 1 Regice AOR 24: Counters Volcanion and Darkrai decks usually. I liked to play Diancie-Ex against dark decks but Regice is more flexible and has another utility: paralyzing with the help of Victini.

---------------------------

##Trainer Cards - 29

* 1 Professor Sycamore STS 114, * 1 Lillie SUM 147, * 1 Colress PLS 135: This deck does not play many drawing supporters. Usually if you can get your hands early on a Double Colorless energy and a Ninja Boy you are in a very good spot.

* 1 Misty's Determination EVO 108: I use Misty mainly to reach for the energy.

* 4 Ninja Boy STS 103: You never have enough of those. There are so many tricks you can do with a Ninja Boy, here are a few:

- Clear your bench of a Shaymin to deny your opponent easy prizes. If you Shaymin into a Electrike, you basically removed 2 prize cards from your bench.

- Retreat a unwanted active pokemon by using Ninja Boy into Jolteon.

- Get your Victini or Comfey out when you need it. Remove status effects with it.

- Avoid getting stuck with an unwanted pokemon in the active. It is so annoying to have a Shaymin in the active to start whit. No problem with this deck.

* 1 Lysandre FLF 104: Who does not play a Lysandre in it's deck? Could go for 2

* 1 Sky Field ROS 89, * 1 Parallel City BKT 145, : Expand your bench space with Sky field and dig very deep into your deck. Bench all the pokemon's you get your hands on and then, clear that bench of all the pokemons you wont need and those Shaymin's to deny your opponent easy prizes. Can be used the other way around in some matchups.

* 1 Fairy Garden FAC 100: Another way to retreat. Prism and Rainbow energy play the same role as Fairy energy.

* 2 Float Stone BKT 137: You never have enough of these.

* 1 Fighting Fury Belt BKP 99: Can save your life and you have better odds of being able to play a powerful Tauros or Machamp.

* 2 Choice Band GRI 121: That little bit of extra damage you need for the OHKO.

* 4 VS Seeker ROS 110: Now you got 8 Ninja Boy's, can't get better.

* 2 Rescue Stretcher GRI 130: Since you are playing only 1 copy of each pokemon, you will want this. Shuffle those important pokemon back into your deck and then Ninja Boy back into it. Also very useful to recycle Shaymins and Tapu Lele.

* 4 Ultra Ball SUM 135: Reach out for Shaymin's, Tapu Lele, Victini or Comfey with this.

* 1 Field Blower GRI 163: You never know...

* 1 Scramble Switch PLS 129: This item will help you save some of your precious energies. Also, if the pokemon you want to Ninja Boy into is in your hands, you will be happy to have this.

--------------------------

##Energy - 12

* 4 Prism Energy NXD 93
* 4 Double Colorless Energy EVO 90
* 4 Rainbow Energy BKT 152

This deck plays only special energy. Magearna and Electrike are used to make sure you dont get fucked by energy denial decks. With those pokemons, playing special energy is not as worse as it seems.

--------------------------

Strength's of the deck:

- Versatility: You have a shot at winning almost any matchups with a decent %. No deck is more versatile.

- Surprise effect: Your opponent will never see it comming...

- Enjoyment: This deck allows you to pull a lot of different strategies which ake's it a very enjoyable deck to play. You will not easily get bored.

Weakness:

- Energy acceleration: This is the deck's main weakness. If you play against an energy denial deck and you make the mistake of not using Electrike to charge up, you can fall behind pretty quickly in terms of energy race and this can come back to haunt you.

- Complexity: This deck takes a lot of time to master. You will loose a lot of games by playing it wrong and forgetting about some aspects.

--------------------------

Conclusion

This deck is just plain awesome and the beauty of it is that you can easily adpat it by using some other pokemon's depending on the meta, here are some special mentions:

- Leafeon-Ex: Great counter to decks weak to grass

- Giratina promo: Destroys Greninja decks

- Diancie-Ex: A very good tank. This pokemon takes 50 less damage against dark decks and its attack is cunning. If dragon decks was a thing, Diancie-Ex would be an awesome counter.

- Mew-Ex: When Ninja Box first got out, this pokemon was played as a counter to Mega Mewtwo decks (check professor K's Ninja Box Youtube video). Nowadays, Mega Mewtwo deck is not as common so i replaced this one with Tapu Lele and Garbodor.

Had a bad streak lately, decided to cut on the garbodor line to include a Karen since i was facing a lot of Nightmarsh decks. I also reduced the number of draw supporters to get a bit more items. Went for 1 Energy lottery and Rollers. Including a Scoop-up could be a toss but can help sometimes.

Since i did not face much Sylveon lately i removed Pinsir. I pulled the trick a couple of times but i went back to Leafeon-Ex instead because i found myself lacking when i was facing Grass weak opponents.

Played a tournament on TCGO today and i won it.

First match was against Yveltal deck. When i got Jolteon out there is not much he could do.

Second match was against Volcanion deck. I gto out Regice very quickly with Lysandre and took baby Volcanion down. Was preparing also for the Jolteon/Glaceon on the bench but it did not drag further then that.

Third match as been very close. The opponent had a Jolteon/Flambuzard/Aerodactyl deck. He mulliganed at least 4-5 times. I do not have much options against Jolteon apart from Garbodor in the deck i am running. I needed to switch between Magearna and Jolteon to get some prizes early on his Aerodactyls. But then on the 3rd turn he pulled out 2 Aerodactyls and i knew i would not be able to trade prizes against him anymore. Jolteon can be immuned against basic but not restored pokemons. Since he was running a 0 retreat cost pokemon combo, he surely did not have ropes and switch. So, in order to beat him, i got Electrike out on the bench with a ninja boy with Victini on the bench. I paralysed him for so long he could never get out of it and decked out.

Ew, lost a final against a Volcanion today, i had removed Regice from the deck. I stalled him with Jolteon but i had to get out too many pokemons.

And Volcanion running drowsing machine is really annoying.

Won the tournament against Accelgor deck, Ninetails deck and finally a Nightmarch deck.

Destroyed Accelgor opponent with Comfey on the bench and Leafeon-Ex active. Proceeded to take game 2 as easily as game 1 with Leafeon and Magearna against the Ninetails/Blastoise/Glalie deck. Ended up against that Nightmarch player that did not have Pokemon Ranger so i had no difficulty getting trough the matchup without loosing much health.

Pure special energy is a very risky strategy in an Expanded format where Aegislash-EX runs rampant.
Completely false. Aegislash is almost never played.

This should not beat a competent Yveltal player. They can Gallade against Jolteon and 1 or 2 HKO everything else.

Ramped up to 11-0 wins. I think one of those last games i shouldve lost but i think the guy made a mistake.

Aegislash and Gallade decks are hard to beat. Here are some ways:

* One could trade a card in the deck for a supporter like Hex Manic or Pokemon Ranger to help. I sometimes had them in.

* You can also try to stall Aegislash using Jolteon/Glaceon depending on the cards they have.

* You can hope to play around lysandre and Latias since Aegislash is often played with other Metal pokemons who have Abilities and cant hurt Latias thanks to his ability.

* Leafeon would probably be the pokemon of choice against Gallade decks.

I added *Latias-EX PLF 85 because it dropped for me like a weak ago. Never had the chance to make profit out of it yet. I think it will bring something the deck was missing against some matchups i.e: Volcanion, Aegislash/Solgaleo and many more.

Gallade is good against Jolteon because he has a weakness to Gallade. Gallade decks are often run with Big basic pokemons. Decks having a mix of Basic and Evolved pokemon is harder to beat since you cannot stall efficiently. You usually would like to stall with Jolteon until you have enough energy attached to play Leafeon. 3 energy attachment to reach Leafeon in time can hurt.

Fightning types are hard to beat in general because you need 3 turns before being able to OHKO. Unless you pull the Ninja boy into Taurus-Gx or Machamp-Ex trick.

*** Marshadow-Gx comming soon that will help a lot in my opinion since you gain a decent Fighting type. Machamp is a 3 turn attachment and is clumsy sometimes to get out against Lightning type. Copying a pokemon in the discard pile^^ yes please.

Completely false. Aegislash is almost never played.

This should not beat a competent Yveltal player. They can Gallade against Jolteon and 1 or 2 HKO everything else.

Yveltal is weak against Jolteon. Yveltal can be OHKO with a Choice band on the second turn with Jolteon. Problem is Gallade as a backup attacker ensures the OHKO right after on the Jolteon. Same goes for Taurus-Gx or Drampa because of their weakness.

Jolteon will work if the Yveltal player has a clumsy start and cannot get out Gallade quickly.

Gallade or Zoroark is the addition needed to the Yveltal deck to ensure you get a chance to defeat the Jolteon-Ex. But there is more the Yveltal deck needs to worry about: Taurus-Gx, Machamp-Gx and Tapu Lele-Gx who hits for weakness against Gallade and decent against Yveltal.

Yveltal can win the trade if he uses Gallade but this is by no means a one-sided matchup. You still need to keep those Gallade rolling.

13-0

Had so much fun playing against this deck, i shoul have recorded. I benched Magearna and Comfey. Those two gave me immunity against Umbreon and Espeon Gx. Immuned from GX attacks, Confusion. Also was immuned against loosing any special energy from Righteous Edge ( Drampa) thanks to Magearna.

Zoroark took 2 prices from me on the Tauraus after the knock out and that was all. My main attackers: Tauraus-Gx taking 4 prizes and Machamp-Ex (with the Comfey support) taking the rest.

16-0

Did play my last match against a Yveltal deck. I did not copy the deck but he had Yveltal, Darkrai, baby Yveltal and Zoroark. I got out Jolteon and killed the baby Yveltal. He could not get an energy afterwards on Yveltal Ex and he passed out to my Jolten-Ex followed up by Drampa-Gx hitting for 150 dmg thanks to Rainbow energy attachment.

I almost got a dry run for energy on my first turn. Got lucky by recycling Unown from the discard pile with Stretcher and reached for it at the last moment.

16-1

First loss against a Lycanroc-Gx/Strassie/Gallade deck. He took his last price with Tapu Lele against Glaceon. Could not copy the deck. I had a couple of bad draws and i could not hit Ninja-Boy for the win. Very close game he had 3 cards left in his hand.

He had 2 copies of Hex Maniac so i could not Latias early. Else i was good to stall every pokemon he had.

19-1

Won my last game against this Darkness deck. He cut on my Energy first turn with Enhanced hammer but i could recover with a Prism attachment and Ninja-Boy into Dampra for the Gx attack. Then i could get that DCE and Ninja-Boy back into Jolteon. He didnt manage to pull too many evolved pokemon out so i took some prizes with Jolteon on the Yveltals. Finished it off with Machamp-Ex. Comfey as a benched support helped to avoid sleep from Malamar-Ex and poison/sleep from Hypnotoxic Laser and Sceptile-Ex.

After 20 games played having won 19 out of 20 makes me happy. I am still trying to make this type of deck work in standard. The main problem is the loss of Prism energy for standard making the deck less reliable. I could not be as successful in Standard as in Expanded.

24-3

I lost against a Greninja deck. Of course, the key in order to beat this deck is to include *1 Giratina PR-XY XY184. There are some staple in the deck that could be replaced. Playing Glaceon with a Giratina on the bench is a very hard blow for a Greninja player. The meta having shifted i felt more comfortable taking Giratina out but there is a moment when it comes back to haunt you.

The other loss i cannot completly remember against what deck it was and i could not copy it. What i remember is that the game was pretty close and my hands where terrible. I could not draw a supporter until i reached half way through the deck.

-----------------------------

One thing to note is that this deck plays few draw supporters. You will want to get a draw supporter on the first turn (this is why Lillie is a good supporter for the deck). But after your first turn, all that counts most of the time is that you have a Ninja Boy in order to choose a counter to the opponent (usually a pokemon hitting for weakness, a OHKO pokemon like Tauros/Machamp or a pokemon who can stall like Regice/Jolteon/Glaceon/Latias).

This is why this deck relies on Shaymins to draw most of the cards. The drawing power in this deck comes from the fact that it can recycle Shaymins/Tapu Lele with some bench tricks. Those bench tricks can be achieved by using Parallel City, Sky Field, Field Blower, Rescue Stretcher, Ninja Boy and Unown. You need to manipulate bench space.

- Send the Shaymins/Tapu Lele into the discard pile and recycle with Rescue Stretcher.

- Send the Shaymins/Tapu Lele into the deck by using Ninja Boy.

- Free bench space or expand space by using Sky Field, Field Blower (on a Parrallel City) and Ninja Boy for Unown

With this deck you will not want to bench unnecesssary pokemons. You will want to make sure you clear the bench of junk/easy prizes when you manipulate the bench space. You will bench unwanted pokemons only if this serves a purpose when manipulating the bench. For exemple, if you got a Parrallel City and you got 2 Shaymin on the bench, you will bench 5 pokemons in order to get rid of those 2 easy Shaymin prizes. You can afterwards probably use Rescue Stretcher to put a Shaymin back in your hand and then the bench.

Denying your opponent prizes on the bench by using Ninja Boy for Unown or Electrike is game changing. For exemple, if you try to juke and stall against a deck, you do not want to bench so that your opponent can win by using Lysandre on your benched pokemons. On the other hand, you mostly depend on Shaymins and Tapu Lele to draw (apart from the Drampa Big Wheel GX option and the few supporters). Since this deck does not accelerate energy and wins by stalling for some turns against a lot of decks, it is vulnerable if you bench enough so that your opponent can use Lysandre for the win. If you mass bench, it is because you have an early Sky Field and you are confident you have enough time to clear that bench before the game goes too late.

25-3

Played a tournament and ended up winning today. First two players where not really impressive.

The first one had a Flambuzard deck. He quickly evolved turn one with a Wally. I had a Jolteon on the bench but he treatened the KO on second turn since he attached a Muscle Band. I had a Field Blower and removed it. Then i used Ninja Boy for Tauros so that i could have more Hp just in case... I followed up with some classic Ninja-Boy into Glaceon with few benched pokemon and easily won.

Cannot remember honestly my second game because i got disturbed here at home and played it on the side.

My third game was against a Garbodor/Tauros Gx/Drampa Gx deck. He started with Drampa and treatened quickly with the OHKO. I sent Jolteon on the active and benched a Magearna with the help of Ultra Ball. I could quickly get out 2 Shaymins and a Tapu Lele, cleared the bench from Shaymins with Parallel City and hold a bit from not playing too many items. A great start. When the Jolteon was too weak (60 Hp left), I Ninja Boy into Tauros and could nail a prize or two. By that time he was hitting for around 100 dmg with Trashalanche. The end game was very awesome since i got N into 3 cards. I ended up having Ultra Ball to pull out the Comfey after using Rescue Stretcher for a Shaymin (4 cards). I had a Ninja Boy left so i could pull Machamp. I was doing OHKO on his Tauros and Drampa by then with Machamp hitting for weakness with Steaming Mad and not getting confused.

42-9

I went on some bad streak don't know what happened. The right card was prized or that right pokemon was comming right into my hand before i could Ninja into it. Most fiersome opponents are still the fighting decks. Could explain it by the fact that Tauros Jolteon and Grampa are a good part of the deck and are weak to it.

Right now badluck letf me and i am on a 10 win streak. I tweaked a couple cards not knowing yet if that will inprove the deck. Included Mallow so i could play it togheter with Unown (avoiding N) to quickly get my hands on the cards i need (thinking about Ninja Boy and DCE mostly).

Volcarona STS 15 is a good inclusion as it can hit for weakness against Grass and Fire. It has the downside of costing 3 energy but you get a OHKO and that usually give you time to recover. If you use Volcarona to win 2 last prize cards it does not penalize you as well in the sense that you dont need your energy anymore.

The way to play it against grass decks is to aim for a quick Ninja Boy into Tauros/Machamp turn 2, after you got damaged enough to do the OHKO.
The other option would be Jolteon/Galceon if you can win it by stalling ( meaning they have either basic or evolved attackers so you can stall).
And ideally, you play the Ninja Boy into Larvesta/Volcarona for the fatal blow (240dmg).

Against Solgaleo or Metagross (250hp), notice that you are 10Hp short for the OHKO.
