I have a question regarding this sticky...mainly because I noticed that water pokemon master mentioned the forbidden word no less than twelve times. He in fact elaborated that the c&d was in no way related to (forbidden word) use and went on to state some debug features included in the (forbidden word).

I would like to know why posting about said topic is not to be tolerated but it is mentioned several times throughout news posts on this site.

If it is easier for the mods i don't mind receiving my answer through a pm and subsequently closing my thread if necessary.

-small update to my thread, I noticed that the sticky mentioned that users are not allowed to ask where or how to get them. But can we discuss them? I only ask because I was not at all hampered by the no exp. debug and wondered if anyone else was also able to find a workaround as I did.
 
I think it isn't because they don't want stuff being leaked without their permission.
 
The forbidden word is illegal to be used, as it it literally a copy of the game that people often obtain without permission. Other sites that I am on have the exact same rules that need to be followed by everyone. Not to mention, discussion of the forbidden word flags a website in search engines. It's one of those things that websites often don't want to be involved with because of the legality involved in the forbidden word. I guess that's one of the easiest ways to explain it without going too deep.
 
I think mostly because Nintendo thought that the screenshots were pulled from them. I know WPM used that article to defend himself, and where the screenshots originated. Nintendo is typically a lot more picky when things are being used from the forbidden word, because it breaks the license agreement that people hold with the ownership of the games.
 
I don't think you are wrong but If we are not allowed to talk about it I am wondering why it is mentioned so blatantly on some of the news posts of this site. I know for certain that there are for sure harsher penalties against a webmaster than against an anonymous poster on a forum.

I want to know if we can talk about it without asking where or how to get one. Which was the main stipulation on the sticky. I appreciate your effort but I'm mainly waiting for a mod or water master to answer my question.

No discussion about them. That includes where to get them, how to get help with them, where to get help with them, etc. I'm not sure what else is confusing about it. WPM only used it to get information about the games.

I can tell because judging by your response you skimmed the thread and posted the first thought in your mind. From your post it doesn't look like you read my post or read the sticky thoughtfully.
 
Don't accuse me of not reading. I read everything and am thoroughly not understanding why you can't see that ROMs are illegal and what and why you can and can't talk about them. WPM, the webmaster, is in a different case than members here, providing a service to explain information to everyone. In addition, he also was getting the real copy of the game, something most members won't do.

I do know that ROMs are illegall that was never my question. The fact you thought it was is what led me to question whether or not you had read my post. My question had nothing to do with the legality of ROMs.

I fail to see why it is alright for him to discuss ROMs but not us. He even went out of his way to say that he did not use ROMs to post his pictures and he also mentioned that Nintendo never mentioned his ROM use in thier C&D.
 
To answer your question...

We had a team of people who will speed run throughout the game, reporting key details such as Pokemon data, storyline details etc. Most of them used the actual copy for themselves to report the details.

Only one person used the ROMs to a greater decree. Not just playing the ROM on emulator - not just for screenshots but also data extraction. Personally for the last number of years, I have extracted a whole lot of data, converted them for either my personal use, or for other websites such as Pokebeach over the years.

Eitherways, we'll have Water Pokemon Master to address on this matter more.

Hope you understand the reasonings behind the purpose of ROMs.
