Ruling Noob Questions

Ok so me and a few of my friends got into the game, and we know all the rules and everything and we know how to play, but there's just a few small things that we don't know the exact rules to, so we just make our own. I just want to get the REAL rulings on them.

1) Can you evolve more than 1 pokemon each turn and do you have to do anything special to evolve them? If you don't, what's the specialty of baby pokemons poke-powers to evolve them and take off their damage counters if you can do it already?

2) If you do evolve a pokemon, do the damage counters and special conditions go away?

3) If a pokemon is asleep, is it mandatory to flip a coin to wake them up or can you keep them asleep if you wish? I.E: My Snorlax, who loses 2 damage counters between turns if he's asleep, do I HAVE TO try to wake him up each turn or can I keep him asleep to keep his effect still going?

4) Big Question: What's the difference between Active pokemon, Pokemon in play, and "defending pokemon". For example, my friend used Chansey's double slap. but the effect goes for each "defending pokemon". Does that count his Chansey and all bench pokemon as well?

5) If your active pokemon is asleep, confused, poisoned, burned, etc and you switch it with a benched pokemon, do the effects still last and they still lose HP due to being burned, poisoned, etc?

Umm, that's it for now. It will be greatly appreciated if anybody can clarify these up for me. Thanks!

evolve as many pokemon during your turn as you like but not on your first turn, and you can't evolve the pokemon More than once per turn unless u have candy+wallys or some combo like that.

2) If you do evolve a pokemon, do the damage counters and special conditions go away?

no. This only happens if you use baby evolution.

3) If a pokemon is asleep, is it mandatory to flip a coin to wake them up or can you keep them asleep if you wish? I.E: My Snorlax, who loses 2 damage counters between turns if he's asleep, do I HAVE TO try to wake him up each turn or can I keep him asleep to keep his effect still going?

you have to flip :)

Defending pokemon = Active pokemon = pokemon he is attacking
pokemon in play = any pokemon that is not knocked out that is on the feild.

5) If your active pokemon is asleep, confused, poisoned, burned, etc and you switch it with a benched pokemon, do the effects still last and they still lose HP due to being burned, poisoned, etc?

first of all you can't retreat when your asleep only if you play switch.
second you cant be asleep and confuzed at the same time
you are either ASleep Confuzed or Paralyzed. AND poisoned and Bured (ban be both)
when you switch the effects do go away.
