Official "Most Rarest and Valuable" Card Thread

RE: Official "Most Rare and Valuable" Card Thread

Moving to collectors gathering since it'd be much more suited to there. Since this'll likely deal with trophy cards (I know they're up there for me), I'll allow discussion of prices and what we've seen them sold for, if anything or anywhere, since the How Much Is This Worth topic deals nicely with everything else that isn't in the thousands of dollars mark.

I'll start by breaking out the big guns people. If you're not sure on history of some of the cards, I'd be happy to elaborate, but I've always found pictures do better for these ones.

Very much worth over $1,000 (though 'Khan is debatable, you can score it for under if you know how). And very rare. The breakdown of what I've taken to calling 'The Holy Five' is as follows:

Illustrator
Estimated 6 in the world. Awarded to the winners of a competition where they illustrated cards to be used in the Extended Sheet/Vending card series in Japan. Pretty much everyone knows the history of this one, it's probably the most well known JP trophy card out there.

Kangaskhan
Awarded only to winners of the Parent-Child Tag Battle Tournament in 1999. There were two tourneys, and there is an unknown number of these cards around, but certainly a healthier number than the other three cards shown on there...

Number 1/2/3 Trainer(s)
Only 2 of each card exists in the world. There were three issues with this artwork: 1997, 1998, and 1999. The only difference/way to tell them apart is the body text. Those of us in the JP collecting world who are into the trophy cards basically know where all copies are in the world, since a lot of the selling of them has been done privately, but amazing cards.

I mean, sure, there are some out there that I'd consider rarer (the No.1/2/3 cards from 2000-2002, for example, due to the fact each one is unique since the winner's name is printed on them), but I grew up learning the history of these cards when I started collecting and playing the Pokemon TCG since the place I used to get my cards from was well versed on them and their mysteries.

Kangaskhan I've seen sell for $700 and under in private sales. It's only the bidwars that drive it. Realistically, the No.1/2/3 trainers can also be obtained cheaper. I scored a matching 1999 set for $8k for all three. Just depends on how long you look ;)

BASE SET WEEDLE IS THE MOST VALUABLE

I believe the majority of trophy cards are entitled to this, particularly any No. 1, No. 2, or No. 3. The numbers for ranked cards are incredibly low - under ten in the world, per card. A few trophies only have 2 - 3 cards in existence per ranking, like the [Pikachu Trophy], [Super Secret Battle Trophy] and [1999 Tropical Mega Battle Trophy] Cards.

The legend itself deserves a mention, too. The [Pokémon Illustrator] is indeed an incredibly valuable and highly sought after treasure. Indeed, it is a holy grail. A good congregation of individuals believe it is worth between $7,000 - $10,000. A particular guide listed it at $20,000 once upon a time, though it was published over a decade ago and was probably exaggerated by the initial hype.

@viper.fox - Aw, UniKarp isn't on here? :< He goes *pew pew*!

@Unique
I love UniKarp, I'm just glad I scored one for a good price, haha. That scan is from a back of Trainers Magazine, and they were all cards I'd heard about as a kid so I had to scan it, and they sort of became my goal pedestal for collecting ;)

@piplup234
I don't but I've had two chances to snag one within the past 2 years. There is at least one still floating around at the moment that is on offer. It'd be nice, but I'm personally content knowing that as many of them exist as they do. With trophy cards like that, or cards presented to the Junior ranks, you can never be 100% sure if the card would end up being well kept or preserved or treasured. Knowing some of the old greats are around and in good condition is amazing.

Wow, I just saw that Illustrator Pickachu on ebay for a fortune!

@Sheer Force- Yeah, is it really worth that much? I know there are 6 in the whole world, but...my goodness...that's like as much as a house.

^It will never sell for that much. Not in 1,000,000 years.

Oh I have no doubt that it's not going to sell for that.

I'd think it'd be more likely to sell if it were under $20k. Though I guess it's all about what it's worth...I personally wouldn't pay more than like $10k for a single card in a million years.

His prices continue to get more outrageous.

He does have some pretty awesome cards, though. He has a few sets that I've wanted forever, but at this point in time, have no money for. :(

But yeah...some of the prices are pretty steep

Ain't prerelease Raichu up in there somewheres? Or is that like noob mode when it comes to collector items?

Yeah it's extremely rare. I haven't a clue what it's worth though. Not many of them exist.

When I look at all the cards guys have said up here they all have one thing in common; they were made by WOTC. Are there any super rare cards that where printed by nintendo?

Bwaaaa
