This means video games, computer, music vids...for only 2 hours a day...and I'm 14! EVERY SINGLE TIME I get on the computer or want to play games I have to write down the time in a notebook, and when I get off, I have to write the time. It's so tedious! And here's something to top it all off: she actually believes that most kids have a limit like I do; even at 16! So I wanted to prove to her that I'm alone in this, and that it's not fair, with a poll! Just vote whether you have a "limit" like I do or not.
Thanks!

RE: OK, so my mom limits my "eletronic time"...

Sorry, my dad tried to do that, and it didn't work out. Maybe it won't for you. Best of luck to you.

My parents tell me I have a limit, I do for a couple days or weeks, then they forget about it, so both

Thank you, too...

Is this topic to draw your parents' attention to this to convince you to remove this limit?
Seriously, good luck with that. I don't think that will work, judging by the kind of parents you have.

Do I have one? Not per se, but I do have other things to take care of.

Sorry, but I got the same thing going here and I'm in college.

In my last year of high school, I was playing call of duty a lot and ignoring my school work. I did fine on the AP tests (most of my classes were AP) so everything turned out alright (I just had lower grades on my report card, which didn't matter to me). Over the summer I was working to pay for college and playing call of duty whenever I could (which was a lot).

But now I get a damn hour a day because they apparently don't trust me to do my school work. My best friend got online a week ago so I figured I'd borrow the rest of my time for that week and spend like five or six hours playing with him. My parents let me do this over the weekend so I thought it would be fine.

But no, I get grounded for an additional week. I have to wait another week to f*cking play. You have no idea how ridiculous it is.

Guess how they know how time I spend online? If they did something like what your parents do where you write the time down, I'd have no problem lying about it. But my dad has this damn program on his computer that tells when a computer in my house is being used along with my ps3. So they are tracking how much time I spend on the computer/ps3. So on friday I went over my friend's house after a dentist appointment and spent the rest of the day there.

Well guess what? Halfway through the day my mom decides to go through every single person in the phonebook that had my friend's last name to call them and find out where I was because I didn't turn my cell phone on (I absolutely hate having to charge it every couple of days).

I seriously feel like I'm being monitored and controlled like I'm under some dictatorship or something. I gotta say at this point the only reason I'm still living here is because otherwise I'd have to move out and find an apartment and pay for it myself without their help. They told me they'd only help if I stay in college.

So I feel bad for you. I think I, more than anyone, understand where you're coming from. But if all they make you do is make you write down your time, then you can find ways to get around it. If they don't check up on you a lot or anything, just play more and write down less time. Play after they go to bed and don't write it down. Be sneaky. Play off the trust they have in you. If they put a timer next to your computer or game system and walk away, adjust it and give yourself more time.

my mom is constantly complaining and nagging me to get off of the computer but I just stay on anyways and nothing ever happens.

I'm not even on the computer that much.. and when I am 90% of the time its casually talking to friends and listening to music.. I'm no game freak.

It's kind of like that with me except I actually have a limit...

Well, it's worth a try...
That's just what bothers me! When I CAN get on, and want to, but I'm just not ALLOWED. Ugh.

Thanks for the advice, but I'd feel bad playing on their trust. I mean, I'd have no problem with it, if I just didn't love them, and if they didn't trust me so much. And, if I did get caught somehow, I would lose trust.
I feel just like you about being monitored! It's so annoying! I pay money for my games and I can't fully enjoy them just b/c I'm not ALLOWED! :{

Can't help you here man, I have a limit too.

When I was younger, my mother didn't allow me to use any of these "electronics" i.e. PC and DS until the weekend, and even then I'd only be allowed to use them for up to 1 and a half hours a day.

Now, I don't care, and I use them all I want, and my results at school have plummeted (sp?). But then again, I know of some guys that know how to balance their time, and plays a lot, but also studies enough at the same time, and he's got straight As. I've been trying to do the same thing, and my results are improving again.

On another note, some of my cousins can't use the computer at all until the holidays. So you can count yourself lucky there.

That's stupid to have a limit. I'm twelve, and an avid player if games, internet, etc. However, I don't have a limit, and make straight A's on my report cards. From what I've read, having a limit, and then not, decreases your grades.

Seeing as I am 22, my parents can't rightfully limit my internet... and even if they tried, they don't live with me so it would be very hard. XD

Putting a specific time limit on it does seem lame though. My parents used to say I could do whatever I want as long as I finish my chores and homework (of course we didn't have internet back then and even so all that was available was dial up. Still I played console video games and stuff). You do need time to do the things you enjoy in life man. =P

I wake up at 11:30 in the morning and am on the computer until 6 AM the next morning.

Yes, I have no life, but I'm also homeschooled. Even if I wasn't, I probably wouldn't have a limit.

What is your issue with this? When imposed by a limit, we all find ways to get over it and move on. I have a limit as well (one hour during weekdays), but do you see me ranting about this? No. One always finds time to do what one loves.

Lolz, I've had limits before. However, being the cunning person that I am, I have gotten myself out of them time and time again. :p

If it's really a problem for you, just wait till you get sick, or something. Say you're really bored because you can't play outside, and your parents should pity you and let you play video games or use the computer. Works every time for me.

When I was that age, yeah, they enforced limits like that, but only for a couple weeks or months. Really, they just want you to get away from the habit of being on the computer or playing games too much. Strangely, they never cared if I played my Game Boy. Even when I was grounded they didn't care about it ._.;

Just get out a bit more and they won't give a hootin' hollar.
