Ruling Old Energy Cards

Only if they have been reprinted in a DP-On set. For example, one Energy card you couldn't use is Double Colorless Energy.

Yes, you can use the old Basic Energy. You can even use the Base Set Potions and Switches if you want to because they have been reprinted in a modified set.

According to go.pokemon, thats fine enough, all thats changed is clarification for if you have one damage counter.
I still use the old Energy Searches, just to make my deck look über old.
There's a list of cards. Towards midway through the ex series, you can use the Special Dark/Metal Energies, as long as you have a reference to a newer one.

^^Sadly, they're different (the Potions I mean). Wanna see the difference?

Old Potion.

New Potion.

Stupid wording difference.

WRONG!!! Although the wording is different, it has the EXACT same effect, therfore, it's legal. And ive used old trainers (reprinted of course) witrh different wording, they are legal. And basic energy are also aloud in other languages.

Enshida pretty much already answered that one you know?

The following link has a list of all the modified-format legal cards from outdated sets if you ever have a similar issue:

http://www.go-pokemon.com/op/tournaments/docs/2008-2009/2008_2009_modified_legal_reprints.pdf

From there, you can read the following:

Basic Energy cards are always Modified-legal, regardless of what set they are printed in.

Also rainbow energy, dark energy, metal energy, and multi energy are all special energy that are still legal.

I don't think so. Dark energy and metal energy from before DP have no exact match in current format. The old ones were only aloud four per deck, and did not give an added effect like our current special dark and metal energies.

You can still use the old ones, you just need a reference/Card-Dex entry in order to use them in a tournament.

^ But why? They are different cards! There is no current card with the same values as it!

The cards just have different wording but are meant to do the same thing. That's why we have card/card dex references

^NO, the old one makes you take 10 damage between turns if you aren't dark type.

Card Name Number Reference Required
Metal Energy 19/111 Yes - EX Ruby & Sapphire or later
Super Scoop Up 98/111 No
Darkness Energy 104/111 Yes - EX Ruby & Sapphire or later

Pokémon Organized Play permits the use of cards from sets that are not legal in the Modified format, as long as those cards have been reprinted in a Modified-legal set. In most cases, the mechanics of the old card remain unchanged, though the wording may be slightly altered for clarification. However, in a few rare cases, the game play text of a card is significantly modified. In these cases, a player may only use an older version of that card if they provide a Card-Dex with the wording for the most recent printing of the card, OR the player has a copy of the card with the most recent wording, outside of his or her deck, for reference. Cards which require a reference are indicated in red and include which version of the card includes the updated wording.
Basic Energy cards are always Modified-legal, regardless of what set they are printed in. As such, basic Energy cards are not included in the list below.
