What do you really miss about the old Pokémon games that were never brought over or expanded on?

From Gen 1:
- Having gift Pokémon go right to your PC, even when you already have 6 in your party. I hate having to deposit, then receive, then deposit!

From Gen 2:
- Long post-game, with gyms from previous generation.
- Getting to fight the main character from the previous generation, as an epic final battle.
- Ability to phone Trainers

From Gen 3:
- Ability to re-battle gym leaders (I know it was also in gen 4, but it started in gen 3)
- Battle Frontier post-game.
- Fame Checker
- Shadow Pokémon
- Something like Mt. Battle, where you can battle lots of trainers and still gain XP.
- Expanded post-game, with new areas.

From Gen 4:
- Pokémon following you.
- Berry Pots.
- GB Sounds-like device for future re-makes.
- Pokétch.
- Full interactivity with real people, instead of just seeing pictures or random NPCs.

From Gen 5:
- Seasons, so you can get Deerling and Sawsbuck in all forms, instead of just their default Spring forms.
- Sequel with many new areas and features, like PWT and Pokéstar Studios.
- Unique made up Pokémon, found in Pokéstar-like area.

From Gen 6:
- Able to get items to do with Legendaries you're transferred or caught.
- Character Customization
- Mega Items
- PokéNav Plus

As much as I'd like to see old stuff come back; it's honestly a bad idea to bring them back.

Think about it. These quirks were often one-offs; specifically designed to give that game originality. If we had all the good things come back from previous Generations; then none of the Generations would be unique. They'd all be exactly the same; more or less.

I'm not saying all, just some. Also, saying "these things made them unique" is like saying "Don't play the original games, because re-makes have more stuff". Just because GSC has less things in it than HGSS, doesn't mean it isn't just "the same" as all other Pokémon games.

I think there needs to be a balance. Yeah, there's some features that should be exclusive to certain regions to make them unique experiences, but they also have a tendency to throw out features that are more integral to the experience and can easily carry over to other regions. Things like trainer customization, trainer and gym leader rematches, and the DexNav are really features that should be standard.

Yeah, or instead of the Dexnav, have the Pokédex version that was in B2W2.

You mean the Habitat List? Well yeah, we should see that too, but I'm talking about how the DexNav could allow you to scout Pokemon and look for its moves and abilities. That's a highly useful feature that makes catching Pokemon a lot easier.

I was thinking of the list of Pokémon in the area thing. Forgot all about the ability to see breeding and tutor moves!

From Gen 5: That other kind of trading from the GTS which is similar to local trading in Gen 6, except you can use 4 "expressions" to show if you like, dislike, love, or are surprised by the Pokemon the opposing one if offering you.

GTS Negotiations? I never found that particularly useful, it suffers from some of the same problems as the normal GTS in that your trade partner usually isn't making a reasonable offer. Plus that emoticon system is a terrible way to communicate, it's far too vague for you to understand what they want. I don't miss Negotiations at all.

Most people I traded with on Negotations understood the memo. They were fair, and sometimes gave away incredibly good Pokemon. Hell, because of a 6IV BR Garchomp I got via GTS Negotations, it started competitive battling for me.
