So I used to collect the TCG back from the original Base set to around the Gym Heroes series, and have recently gotten back into collecting and playing again. I decided to pull out my old cards and sort them and see how they held up, as I tried to keep them in good condition. My English cards mostly held up ok.
However, I had several Japanese cards I got through the years, and something seems to have gone wrong. I kept them in a binder, with two cards per sleeve, one facing forward on one side, one forward on the other side. When I went to pull them out, they were stuck together, and even the ones not extremely stuck suffered damage on the backs separating them. The few that weren't 2 per sleeve still stuck to the binder sleeves, and became damaged as well.
I know the original Japanese card backs were different from the English/International ones, and were a more glossy, slick card back at the time. Has this sort of thing cropped up with anyone else? I've googled and nothing seems to pop up, and I can't figure out why this happened. They were stored in a closet where it probably did get hot, but as far as moisture, there's none I can think of, and my English/other international cards didn't stick, or become warped. I'm at a bit of a loss to figure out what happened.
