Pokemon Pokémon Name Origins

But if a definitive list exists, it sort of defeats the purpose of the thread, doesn't it? Even if they had copy and pasted the whole list here, /thread.
 
That site doesn't explain some very well though. Like for Pidgey - Pidgeot it just says "pidgeon". A species of bird. Am I to understand that all three names are just a play on the word pidgeon and the otto and eot has no real meaning?
