Band Is Awesome!

Rules:
1. All Pokebeach rules
2. Please state your instrument
3. Only discuss band, orchestra, marching band, and chorus.

Hello fellow band members! This thread is for all of us here who are band enthusiasts. All we have to do is discuss... Band! I'll start.

Here's our first topic: Band Camp

So today, I just finished band camp. I had fun, and we did a lot. It is my first year in jazz band, and I love it! I am going to try out for section leader for next year, and I won't even be a senior yet :) By the way, my instrument is Trombone.

I want to discuss band camp. Did you enjoy it? Is it tough, or easy? What groups are you in?

I will repeat what I said. I enjoyed band camp, we did a lot of fun stuff. On two nights, we have mixers that we get to dance to. I was in jazz band this year, hence my signature. My instrument is Trombone.

I did, my band camp ended Thursday and it was a whole lot of fun! :) I'm in the pit playing Xylophone so I stayed mostly inside which, during 102 degree weather, was good. We had a superhero dress-up day where the winner was toilet girl (don't ask...) and we had a twin day where the winner was our Drum Major and a trumpet player dressed up as conjoined twins.

Good times.... good times.... :p

We have a similar marching competition. Are band is broken up into squads during band camp, and we compete against the other squads. We do this on monday, and for it we have a theme. Ours is the characters from the Clue game.

I'm part of the University of Houston marching band, and it's a blast. I play trumpet, and we are easily the section with the most spirit. I have been in the Pit Orchestra for three consecutive Senior Musicals in high school, and I've been in a number of gigs where I play hymns and stuff like that. Most recently, I've been in the Pep Band, the Cougar Brass, for the Basketball players, and it's been a blast as well. (Last year, we went on a paid trip to Spokane, Washington. :p)

That's awesome :D last year I didn't have a spot for the first movement of my show, so I played chimes in the Pit, because I play Piano, so I know the treble cleff.

@patrick329, just curious, but what is your theme this year? Ours is Motown, and we are playing songs like I'll Be There (both kinds), I Feel Good and so forth. Also, do you ever have drama during Band Camp? This is my second year of marching band and there was a lot of drama in the pit last year, so I was just wandering if it was normal.

BEnB

No, there is not too much drama. There apparently was last year in the indoor gaurd, but I am not in that, so I don't know for sure. The theme this year for my show is the ocean. The show coordinator wrote all original music, except a few parts for one of the songs, but our instructor won't tell us what yet.

Wow! All original music! I would love to see your show!
It figures there isn't drama elsewhere, you would just have to meet the person that caused it last year. Unfortunately, their parents are big sponsors, so politics comes into play and the person gets away with it, over and over again. But I guess that's life...

I know how that is. I have a few parents like that in Tge band. My mom calls them "band nazis."

OH YEAH PERCUSSIONISTS. *hi fives* Anyways I didn't have Band Camp this year since I just moved, but I play Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Bells, Xylophone, Tambourine, Cymbals, Triangle and pretty much anything related to Percussion. I even play the Drum Set but that's not really part of normal school bands.

It is in ours. :p We have one in our show this year and some of the people in Drum Line will stay after school with our instructor and have jam sessions. I personally don't stay, because the only reason I play in the pit is because I keep snapping my ankle so I can't march Saxophone. But its contagious, I love pit and wouldn't change for the world. :D

@patrick329

Turns out, according to my sister who was in band years ago, that's what several people call them here. Who knew?

Lol I guess it's just a generic term for grumpy band parents :)

@Hipoke I hope you have fun at your new band.

I agree, except in this case, I don't think it's the parents because they are really nice, it's the directors not wanting to kick the kid out of band and lose the sponsor.

Okay. Onto a new topic, but you can still comment on the first.

What part of band do you like best? Marching the shows, marching practice, symphonic concerts or rehersals, Jazz band, band activities not necessarily relate to band?

I like jazz band best. I really enjoy the songs.

Oh, we have one too but it's only for jazz band, which I couldn't be in, for my reasons. But I want to be in this year.

@patrick thanks!

Ahh, a thread about band.
I'm in drumline at my high school (battery, snare), and it's htting 105+ outside everyday. It's so hot, and marching isn't fun.
We're doing metal music this year, which should be fun.

Cool, I'm in my school band and jazz band. I play clarinet in concert and tenor sax in jazz band. And I gotta say, I didn't really like band camp. It was sort of long... It was fun performing with people who love it as much as you do though.

I'm in my school band and I play trumpet... but I've never actually heard of a local band camp in our area. So I guess my favorite part in band is playing in all the concerts and stuff, it really is fun to show what you've got.

I didnt go to any Band Camps this year, I dont even know if there are any in my area. Today is the first day of Marching Band so I have 8 non-consecutive hours of Band. It'll be my first year of Marching Band, I hope it goes well :D.

My favorite part of band is touring. Last year our Jazz Band played at 4 elementary schools and it was so fun. Small children don't care if you mess up a solo. I also like competing, I made an All-State honor band last year.

Oh yeah, I play the Tenor Sax XD.
