Pokemon Comaster Board Game App Announced!

lol how did the know what i was thinking, one time in a class we had to make board games so i thought of an idea of using Pokemon figures which are standing on the circular things and make it into a board game

The original post has now been updated with some statements from people involved with the game from both The Pokémon Company and HEROZ. Go check it out! :)

And, yes, if you watch the video you'll see that the figures are just digital. It's kind of a shame, since they would be cool figures to collect. :p

Short history lesson below!:

Does anyone remember the Pokémon TFG (trading figure game)? It must have been about 8-9 years ago that it came out and then subsequently flopped.

Pokémon Comaster is basically that. The board was about the same. The objective was the same (occupying your opponents Goal). They didn't even bother to replace the figures haha... a move they likely made to leave open the option of selling physical figures.

Your squad of Pokémon Figures was never called a "deck" though, although they did have trainer cards (which were introduced late enough the game was already flopping hard by then).

Either way it's obvious that this is their way of reviving an idea almost a decade old, and I don't mind one bit. I made my own figures and board at home to play the TFG haha, because I thought it was a really fun game back then.

Pokemon was way ahead of their time. If TFG figures were amiibo today, they'd sell a whole lot more than the TFG did.

The question now is will this ever leave Japan? As a free to play app, I beleive it could! Looking forward to it! :D

I actually still have an Absol figure from the TFG around somewhere. I wasn't really into Pokémon merch super much while the TFG was a thing, but I ended up picking up that Absol figure on clearance shortly after the game was discontinued. It'll be interesting to see how much the rules and gameplay of this game match up with the older one.

This. Some of this. This is why I will never understand TPC's way with merchandising the figurine market.
I myself love collecting figures and was so sad that the Unova Pokemon had no love and the Kalos Pokemon as well. They seriously need to step up with their merchandising and have less focus on Pikachu and the anime and more on the games.

For a second I thought those "figures" were amiibo. But they're just digital, eh?
So instead of giving us actual figures, TPC thought it would be a good idea to make a mobile game based around Pokemon figures so that they could torment us even more with Pokemon that will never see being made in real life.

There actually are quite a few Pokémon figures made for all sorts of Pokémon, including many newer ones from recent generations. The problem is that most of these figures are only sold in Japan and so very few of them become available internationally. There are Zukan figures, Pokémon Kids, Moncollé, and other lines, primarily made by Bandai and Tomy. You can order them from international retailers/resellers, and even find some in person at anime cons and the like.

It's more than just that.

I don't want to own a smartphone, but all these Pokemon stuff coming out is really "telling me" to get one.

OMG THE TFG IS REVIVED?!!!

:O THIS MADE MY DAY!!!!!
It's the shame my old figures broke, or I would play with them with my friend for nostalgia

Seems to be Pokemon TFG meets Shogi. :p

It looks fun though. Let's hope for an international release! :D

Such a powerful AI has never before been combined with the “Pokemon” world, and gives birth to a new type of Pokemon gameplay.
It's about time. >_>

I'm actually more worried about this app than I am excited; it looks like the definition of a missed opportunity. They've got the greatest AI in the world, and instead of making it a formidable opponent, they ally it with you, making the game a cake walk. It's also not yet revealed if you can play this game with human opponents or simply AI. If the entire game is comprised of battling AI, if you can't fight one of the greatest AI ever created when it's programmed into the game, I'll be sorely disappointed; I'll still be somewhat disappointed if it has WiFi battles and you can't fight it.

The gameplay itself looks neat enough though :D
