Introduction
Well, ever since I joined Pokebeach, I have noticed that we haven't had a chaining guide. It's been a bit of a problem for me chaining. As I've practiced and practiced, I've gotten better. I've gotten so confident I've decided to write a guide on chaining for Pokebeach, so here it is and I hope you enjoy! P.S. starters should start on Route 207 (The route north of Oreburgh City)
Items you will need:
- Poké Radar
- Super Repels or Max Repels (Super Repels are cheaper)
Preparing for the Chain
Now, for the preparation. If you want a shiny with a specific nature, use a Pokémon with the Synchronize ability, as that will give you a 50/50 chance of getting a nature you want. Also be sure to carry a Pokémon with False Swipe to help making catching the Pokémon easier.
To get an understanding, I have have made an example patch of grass you are in. X is you, and the numbers around you are the patches of grass around you.

For this rule you must always go for the grass in the forth patch of grass unless it's the north, south, east, or west tile.
Patch Rules:
You'll want the patches to be scattered than more clumped together. The closer they are, the higher the chance of the chain breaking.If everything but the 4th patch(es) are together and the 4th patch is isolated, there's a higher chance of breaking the chain.
Do not run too far! That will break your chain and you'll have to start over.
Patch Types:
- The regular type, which shakes a little.
- The tile that flashes white-these are Pokeradar exclusive Pokemon.
- The grand-daddy of them all! The shiny patch which shakes and sparkles.
And here is the important rule: Count your chains!!! After you have achieved a chain of 40 Pokemon, the chance of finding a Shiny Pokemon is 1:50, (or 1 out every 20 or so Super Repels) so be persistent and keep trying. It doesn't change after that, so it's recommended that you save and reset, in order to maintain that probability without losing the chain.
Chaining steps:
- Use a Super Repel to prevent any non-PokeRadar Pokemon from breaking your chain.
- Use the PokeRadar and observe the patches that shake.
- If you see one that appears to be safe, carefully make your way over to it. DO NOT WALK UP TILE 1, since there may be a patch that shook directly above you that you missed (it's hard to see). Defeat the Pokemon that appears.
- If you don't see any safe patches, reset the PokeRadar by walking around (make sure you don't accidentally trigger a patch) and use it again.
