Many of you have been playing Pokemon since it came out, but as the years are coming along what good and bad differences do you feel about Pokemon? Like it now or dont like it now? Is better today or worse today? I think it is worse today mainly because of the anime and the designs for Pokemon.

I think different aspects of it are going in different directions...

In general I think the pokemons designs have been going downhill. I think the author of VG Cats had it right when he wrote "Pokemon these days look so stupid. They all look like robots, with stripes and spikes." And not only that but it seems almost as though they're designing each pokemons stats to be more suitable for competitive battling. Compare Pidgeot to Staraptor for a second. Both the common bird evolutions of their generations but where Pidgeot has more well-rounded stats with slightly better Attack and Speed, Staraptor is all about Attack and Speed since they're its 'useful' stats and forsake everything else. (Maybe I'm just being a bit silly on that point but that's how it looks to me.)

The anime is downhill all the way, mindless repetition of pretty much exactly the same thing as the last 10 seasons. (I lost track how many there are. Truth be told I don't really care either... xD) Also, would it be asking too much for a movie where we've exchanged the legendary pokemon for a decent plot? Yes? Thought so.

With the games, graphics and sound have undoubtedly improved due to technology increases. Gameplay remains pretty much the same. In terms of stuff to do once you've finished the main story I'd say they're going uphill on that. I'm not even going to comment on the story. Gym leaders are getting weirder and weirder, I can't bring myself to like any of the Sinnoh leaders. Volkner comes the closest because he seems the most normal of them. Plus the constant increase in the number of legendary pokemon in each generation is a downhill point for me.

Honestly, everything but TCG is downhill. My VGs are biased, but the cards have come so far in these 10 years. (10 aniv. Fan appreciation tourney would rock!

I feel everything has gone uphill, except maybe the anime (that does not include the films - they've all gotten better). I'm not going to spend a day explaining why I feel that way, but in my opinion, everything (except the episodes of the anime) has gotten better since the days of Red and Blue, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for the ever-growing Pokémon company.

I'm with Xous on this one...I think generally Pokemon is going uphill...however, the anime (which I never really liked to begin with) is stagnant and boring, with only a lil' comedy (mainly running gags that have been run to death)

the VG's to me have gotten better with increased continued play value...I'm not exactly impressed with the look of the character sprites for the main character, but that's just being picky...the pokemon, while some ideas and concepts have seem a lil' overused, have all been pretty decent...you have some variety even though there is alot that is essentially the same...I honestly think it's time for Game Freak to take the game to the next level though...instead of constantly offering only the starters for grass, fire, and water...it's about high time, GF opens the door to starters of all types, instead of just those three

as for the comment about the comparison of Staraptor and Pidgeot...let's look at the two birds they were patterned after...an all around bird (Pidgeot) and a bird of prey (Staraptor)...of course Pidgeot is going to have more balanced stats compared to a Staraptor whose pattern bird is mainly about attack and speed...to be honest, it's as though balanced bird and the bird of prey switched evolutionary lines...with Pidgeot being a balanced 2 stage line, and Fearow being a speed & attack 1 stage line for that generation...and now you have Staraptor being a speed & attack 2 stage line from the DPPt generation and Swellow being a more balanced 1 stage line from the RSE generation

As others have said, Pokemon in general is going in an uphill direction. The games are more popular than they were in the RSE era, and HGSS is certainly going to raise the bar even more. The TCG is still going strong, and attendance at tournaments has grown in the past few years. Movies are more high quality and are a least mildly interesting now, as well.

The anime, however....now, they're just repeating the same ideas they had back in the classic days. Back in the Kanto and (sort of) Johto episodes, they were good. However, as GS wore on, the episodes were starting to lose quality, and by the time mid-AG had arrived, episodes were terrible. The anime hasn't gotten much better since then.

Pokemon looks solid overall, but the anime is certainly hurting the big picture.

It's all uphill except anime. The new designs may be horrid but the GSC remakes are looking wonderful and are showing the little changes can make a big difference. (Yeah, walking around with a Shuckle behind me will be super-cool) They're adding new stuff but for me it's not actually ruining it. And I think we all know hoe the card game's going. ^_^

I've voted for the cards also going downhill. The format is Donkalisious and more and more broken cards are coming out to counter other broken cards. A loop that just makes you go FTW in reverse.

Lol, I'm sorry, but a card is only broken if the cards around it can't handle it. There are SO many Tier 1-1.5 decks used at the moment, it is impossible to predict the metagame at the moment. No one card shows through as the best.

because the place is crowded by them DUH. Of course you can't see the trees in the forest if you look at the forest.

Exactly. Now, change the word Trees into Cards and change Forest into Metagame. Welcome to the world of 'grown up logic'.

you call the current meta 'a lot of options'? OMG fail imho. Rogues decks are unplayable since there are so many T1 decks that are all weak VS eachother. -.-' It's like playing in circles, 1 plays Gengar, 1 plays Luxape, 1 plays Flygon, 1 plays Dialga G LVX, 1 plays Beedrill and thus leaving no more room for other decks like Leafeon, Dusknoir among others to do well in the format. Sure, you have 'a lot of different decks to choose from' in the format. But big whoop, most of them (If not all IMHO) are brain farts like Macheap. It's so creative to see the format being as stale as usual besides having more deck options that win tournies. -.-'

Wait - It isn't all T1s! Flygon is unusually slow for this format, but is still having success. "decks that are all weak to each other" sounds like a pretty good metagame to me!

Flygon is good because it gives everything free retreat if it's body isn't blocked and has an immunity attack that gets rid of opponent's Stadiums and is backed up by a new Double Colorless Energy and a LV.X that discards cards between turns and an attack that get's rid of any other opposing LV.X for just 3 NRG. It also has some Energy Accel in the form of the new Trapinch remember? So how could it NOT do well? Why do I have to state the obvious?

Yeah, but it's pretty boring to have a meta still full of the same decks over and over. Very original, Broken Pokemon: The Gathering. >_>

But is it a "mindless T1 deck"?

No, but pretty much everything else is and you don't have to use your brain much when playing Flygon either. Just survive T1 and you are pretty much good to go. Which usually can't be said for any other non meta deck AKA Rogue.

You may as well be saying you don't need to use your brain too much when playing Pokemon cards. I'm not even going to get into the fact that T1 decks can have fun games if they're still going T3, but Flygon is very much like a setup deck.

At the moment, in the current meta, IMHO, you indeed do not need to use your brain much. However, my Café decks do require you to use your brain. Sadly, it all has become die T1 or have everything you have in play KO'd by Flygon. [sarcasm=]Soooo much fun ain't it, such meta?[/sarcasm]
