I LOVED the venue for US nats last year. Can't wait to be there again... speaking of... this late date will possibly allow me to go. I leave for Japan on the 19th of June and return on the 4th of July... unless that plan gets changed, you can expect to see me at Nats ;D The location was one of the best for nationals in history... and I hope it stays there for a long, long time.

Sounds good! That's pretty close to where I live, but I probably won't go no matter what...
Just curious (since I'm fairly new to competitive tournaments), is there anything you need to do to qualify for Nats (eg do well in States/Cities), or is it just open?

Scizor, the only require for US nats is that you have to be a US citizen... and that rule is very loosely enforced. If you aren't, you cannot win the trip and scholarship and stuff... but you should be fine. ;D ... the other requirement is that you have a deck... but no there are no invites required to play

I hope to get the Marriott this year instead of the Westin so I don't have to walk through the convention center like I did last year. I wonder why they moved the event further back this year unlike the previous years.

We usually go into the thousands... really fun event it is. Even when you are not competitive, it is a really great time. Even going just to meet other beachers is worth your pay. I love hanging with the whole lot of former Beach people (Mishik, SOM, etc). The tournament is just the side attraction. You WILL meet somebody there that you will talk to a lot online.
Zele, make sure you get a hotel CLOSE to the event this time ;P They kept it in Indianapolis because EVERYBODY loved it. Last year was the best nationals ever... undisputed. We had a LOT of room and a very nice amount of hotels all over. It would be dumb to move it anywhere else (except Chicago ;P)

No. I didn't mean the location, I meant the date. Usually it's the last weekend or June but now they moved it mid-July. The hotel I got was 2nd closest to the event but it stunk because that meant you had to walk a long way. D:
I remember it was awesome. It even had food unlike St. Louis and the heat wasn't unbearable like St. Louis. :F

I can't imagine how one would find 'Beach members with all those people, but it sounds like a really fun event.

^You'd be astonished. Post a pic in the picture thread, and you'll find a buncha people. Say that you'll be wearing a sombrero, and people will run up to you. I had a person sitting across the table from me 2 years ago ask me if I was Z-man... I was so happy He then proceeded to pwn me and tell me his username. ... I haven't beaten Zele since... ;P

Well that was the first and last time we'd ever play in OP again. Now with league games on the other hand...
But like Zero said, if you just tell people where you will be and what you may have with you then you'd be surprised how many people will recognize you. I remember seeing Bela one year...

The event is free... just show up and wait in line (hour long waits ftw). It isn't awkward at all. We know that it is a very social event. I know people that wear signs that say "Hello my name is <username>". We will always try to do things that only we do (I wore fancy clothes at worlds of 09) to try to get people to notice eachother. Once we get the obligitory "do you have a beach/HT/Gym account", a conversation usually starts. Stay away from the obvious trolls <BELA>, and you should survive. The event is just fantastic and is a lot of fun.
