Just satrted mine over, and I would like some pointers, because it has been YEARS seince I've played it.

So far~
I have a female Turtwig (Adamant, I'm pretty sure)
Female Starly (Naive)

So should I stick with Starly, or Turtwig, or is there a better way to go?

I was thinking about a Mothim or Wormadam, does anybody have experience with one of those? Or should I use a Krickitot?

And for my water type~Shellos or Buizel?

Any other pointers would REALLY be appreciated!

I'd go with Shellos. Starly isn't bad, but get a shinx. You don't really need a grass type other than turtwig if you decide to keep him.

Alright, thanks, because I was pretty ify on Shinx, because I wanted one, but didn't know if I should get one.

A perfect team for me would be

That turtwig
Staraptor
Floatzel
Honchkrow(yes another flying type)
Tyranitar
Snorlax

Thats ust me

Cool, yeah, it is a pretty good dark type and not hard to find

Yeah, Enterna Forest at night, but Diamond gets Murkrow. Pearl gets Mistrevious (or however you spell it).

Well, she could (a) Catch a misdreavus and do it that way, misdreavus is good too. B) If she has platinum, migrate it from there. Or C) use the gts

Pearl is like the more annoying version of Platinum. You have too little of the types you actually need and very few good Pokemon out there. As a result, team building in Pearl is a pain unless you use Infernape or you trade. (The only other Fire-type you have access to is Rapidash. Platinum rectified that by adding Houndoom, Magmortar, and even Flareon.)

Unlike most bird Pokemon you catch really early on in the game, Staraptor is actually extremely worthwhile in the end. (The only other bird that shares this honor is Swellow.) It gets tremendous Attack and Speed, access to Intimidate, and can be a real pain due to moves like Aerial Ace, Brave Bird, and Close Combat. I'd say Staraptor is a must.

When it comes to Water-types, your best bet is either Gyarados or Floatzel. They're both relatively easy to get and they serve their purposes well. If you're really desperate for a Water/Ground type, though, get Whiscash - it's superior to Gastrodon in virtually every way.

Most Bug-types this gen are pretty bad. If you really must have one, let it be Heracross or maybe Vespiquen. Although, Roserade is actually a Pokemon that can hold its own pretty well.

As for other Pokemon you can get later on in the game, not counting starters, all of the following are good/great choices (some of them you need to trade to get but it's worth it):
Alakazam, Machamp, Ambipom, Drifblim, Gengar, Mismagius, Honchkrow, Bronzong (seriously, it's amazing), Spiritomb (very hard to get if you don't have 2 DSs and 2 DPPt games, or you trade), Garchomp, Snorlax, Lucario, Hippowdon, Drapion, Toxicroak, Milotic (if you feel like working for it), Weavile

Platinum has a lot more options for different types, and of the good stuff you can get in D/P, most of them you can't get until very late, or they're incredibly difficult to get (Vespiquen, Spiritomb, Snorlax, Milotic). The key, though, is not to have too many of your Pokemon weak to the same thing - in my run through Diamond, half my team was weak to Earthquake and I suffered heavily at Cynthia's hands because of it. This is why Bronzong and Gengar come in handy because they both have Levitate.

And I didn't list Luxray in there, because Luxray is a terrible terrible Pokemon - even worse than Raichu.

Alright, thanks DNA! Great pointers! Now I'm seriously considering Bronzong now. Oh, and I'd re-do Platinum (after I transefered everything) but I lost it, and don't wanna buy a new one (cuz my parents won't buy my games anymore XD) because I don't wanna get a game a already played, and it's not on my top priority of things to buy at the moment. (Saving money is REALLY hard if you're me! I got $5, and within 10 minutes, it was spent on candy)

In my playthrough of Diamond I started raising a Bronzong on the trek to Snowpoint (I caught one at level 15 and gave it an Exp Share), and by the time I got there it had evolved and was ready to start owning. Bronzong is good not only because of its good stats, but because it has only one weakness (depending on what ability it has) and status moves like Hypnosis (70 acc in this game) and Confuse Ray that make it a real troll. It's indispensable.

lol you shouldn't waste your money on candy like that

I just happened to find this thread.

I FEELZ INSULTINATING. :ninja:headbang:smashcomp

And asking for advice in in-game is sad. Just use what you like, since you can beat in-game with pretty much anything.

HypnoticLuxaray~I'm gonna go my own way, but I just need a few pointers, because (sadly enough) I don't remember beating Pearl (or Platinum) without an Event Pokemon.

Now, maybe it might have bad speed, but I have used Luxray in every Platinum run i've done and it has been great.

Getting a Luxray with intimidate could be really helpful too when fighting Cynthia's Garchomp.

Well, with me, Luxray is just ok, because I've used one before, and it's been on the so-so side with me.

@PM899: I never used one in Plat because I did a 3-starter run including Infernape with Thunderpunch, that and my terrible experience with Luxray in Diamond put me off the guy for life.

He'd be good if he was FASTER than what he was supposed to do good against.

Kricketune and Mothim/Wormadam are not very good. They are only good against grass types and they die too easily.

Torterra
Staraptor
Bronzong
Floatzel/Gastrodon - Floatzel is fast and a good quick attacker, While Gastrodon can't be hit by electric types and more defensive your personal choice counts here.

I'd use:
Torterra
Luxray
Gliscor (Can you get Gliscor in Pearl? I know you can in Platinum...If not, go with Togekiss is something)
Houndoom
Gyarados
Toxicroak

That's approximately my team la

I like the idea of Toxicroak and Houndoom.

I think I'm going to go with this~
Torterra
Staraptor
Mismagious
Bronzong
Toxicroak
and Houndoom

that sound like a good team?

You'll need to trade for Houndoom - it appears wild in Platinum, not D/P. (You can find Gligar but it's post E4, much like Houndour.) And, aside from the Torterra, it looks like a good solid team.
