Everyone thinks that pokemon is for little children (I know it's not but...). Why do people think it's for little children, also do you think pokemon is childish (don't be afraid!)

.. I don't see where you're getting the idea that everyone thinks it's for children. I'm out of highschool next year and I play. the creators are freely addmitting that a lot of the current players are the ones who have witnessed pokemon from the begginning and are still playing. I'm one of the origional players, but most of them are already going off to college.

I have experience. Some kids make fun of me for my Pokemon intrest, and I'm in middle school. I think it's mainly the stupid anime and the cute Pokemon.

I dont even understand what this thread is about.
are you asking us if its childish? are you claiming pokemon is for adults?
anyways I play pokemon and im like halfway through highschool

It's a common misconception that Pokémon is only for kids, guys. Don't act all foreign about it.

Also, 4kids is to blame.
...THEY(OR SOMEONE RELATED TO THEM OR WHATEVER)EVEN MADE A SONG ABOUT HOW ONLY KIDS UNDERSTAND POKéMON! SERIOUSLY, 4KIDS?

yes, I admit the anime is probably for children, though I was only thinking of the games at the time. but they are actually making the characters older than 10 for once. they've realized that their audience id older now. probably even the majority.

The anime have always been aimed at children, of course, but older people like it, too. 4kids just made it seem like only small kids were allowed to enjoy it.

Weren't they always? The Red/Green/Blue protagonist was... 11, according to the manual (or something).
The 10 year old thing was actually invented by the anime, I believe. For no good reason at all, really, because Ash has met countless of younger Trainers...

The majority of the Pokémon fans are "still" 8-9 year olds, probably.

The show is geared towards kids, but even so it really doesn't matter how old you are and if you still watch it or play the game or something. I graduated from high school a couple weeks ago and I'm still playing the games and if I have some free time watch an episode or two.

I really only enjoy/used to enjoy the older show. but what I don't inderstand is why the dub doesn't allow any sort of violence what-so-ever. now they even limit the amount of japanese (or any other) culture in the dub. I'm sure children see a lot more violent things on other shows. and true, the red/blue/green/ protagonist was 11, which is around the "qualified" age to become a pokemon trainer, but now (I'm guessing) the new characters are around possibly 13-15. which makes me feel a little better about playing the game (plus I like her 80's-ish style XD)

You know, it's no secret that the game series, from the beginning, was aimed at kids (not unlike many of Nintendo's series such as Mario or Zelda). Quite frankly, I think it's nonsense to claim otherwise. However, this hasn't stopped people from getting into it, regardless of age, race, or background. Heck, I turned twenty-four just over a month ago and I'm as big of Pokemon nut as I've ever been (seriously...the majority of games I've bought since the days of the GBC and N64 are all Pokemon, I own almost all the movies, and I still buy and collect Pokemon-based merchandise when I get the chance even if it's second-hand stuff I find at thrift stores).

The anime is meant for kids. Ash won't say anything his age and he's like what, 14? Ash needs to grow up. Pokemon is given a bad rep because of Ash. The TCG and games involve strategy and problem solving. Adults and non-pokemon fans don't understand that.(Try asking my parents) The anime is the source of all evil. Personnally, I don't find pokemon childish at all. Except for stupid Ash.

Mh.

10.
Ash needs to grow up.
Nah.
Pokemon is given a bad rep because of Ash.
Well, this is true, I guess... Dub Ash, this is.
The TCG and games involve strategy and problem solving.
Which Ash is great at. *points at most Sinnoh episodes*
Adults and non-pokemon fans don't understand that.(Try asking my parents)
Your parents are the exception, not the rule.
The anime is the source of all evil.
Nah, that's the dubs. They stupidify the series no matter how much they try not to, for some reason. The anime itself is still one of the most popular Pokémon medias.

What exactly is it about Ash that people find... childish? Sure, he forgets pretty much everything he's learned whenever he moves on to another region, and sure, he never grows up - literally, but...
...That's not childish.
And that's not even his fault. :I

Nono. He was 10 when he started his journey, and hasn't aged since.
According to the creators, at least. x3

My own classmates used to mkae fun of me for playing. We are like a family and they still made fun of me. So, in class, I asked my teacher if I could have a word and she was fine with it. Then I asked my class why they made fun of me. They all thought it was childish. I said," besides some cute Pokemon and the show, what makes it so childish?" They all said that it was because it came out when they were pretty much born and they played when they were young. I said that, "just because you played it when you were little doesn't mean it specifically aimed for our generation." After that point, my class stopped making fun of me. So, I think that middle schoolers think that it is chilidish because they played it when they were little, even though it isn't only aimed for that age group.

One thing I know for a fact is that talking doesn't always work in those situations. The only thing that got my classmates and the underclassmen to stop was me actually beating one of my worst tormentors up (and I almost got expelled for it, too). But then, my high school was pretty messed up to begin with (notorious for letting complaints of students picking on each other go almost completely ignored), so that was the only way I could get my point across. So, I have to say you're lucky that your classmates are mature for their age-group. I know some full-grown adults who still act like their spoiled little kids.

I don't really get made fun of for it, I'm kind of quiet in school and usually I look pretty angry (at least that's what people say) so I just play off with that act and people pretty much leave me alone, but it only works if no one really knows that you're not really like that. but there are a select few people that decide to annoy you for fun. but I can deal with that XD
