Pokemon Tournaments

Okay, so I'm interested in joining real tournaments now beyond that of my fight club.
We have a local card shop called Loki's that hosts these tournaments every Saturday (meaning i have to start requesting my saturdays off from work)

Q1) So I was wondering before I join, what are the different kinds of tournaments held, and what are the differences between these tournaments?
I've seen Battle Roads listed, and just "Pokemon League Tournament" but I dunno the differences XD

Q2) Which tournaments actually involve moving up in ratings and (eventually) playing people in different cities and moving to state/national?

Q3) Is there a deadline to join now before I am no longer eligible to join and move up in ratings?

I've seen Battle Roads listed, and just "Pokemon League Tournament" but I dunno the differences XD There are pre-releases, BR's, Cities, States, Regionals, Nationals, And worlds. Pre-releases are non premier, and don't affect your rating. The rest are similar, but are in different locations, and have increased competition.

Q2) Which tournaments actually involve moving up in ratings and (eventually) playing people in different cities and moving to state/national? any premier event affects your record. Check the answer above. You can freely go to any tourny except worlds. You must be invited for that.

there is no deadline.

You can find the sign-up on Go-Pokemon.com. A league tournament won't affect your ranking, but you'll usually get a couple packs if you win. There's usually a small fee for those too, unlike BRs-Worlds.
