Okay, so first report of the new season, trying to build on the success of last season (top cut at States and Regionals). Rotation kicked FlyPhan’s butt though, so I decided to build something rogue-esque and run with it. My expectations: 2-3 wins. So, Tucson BR’s prepare for the glory that is Gengar/Electrode!! (and GF was running Eeveelutions, so at least 1 win in her first tourney would be cool).
Round 1
Radar vs. Matt aka DMaster (DialgaChomp)
I hate playing friends this early in a tourney. I mean, if its later on and we’ve both done well, then yeah, I’m all for it. But this? Bleh. So we open, Voltorb to Uxie IIRC. I screech him, he responds with a Psychic Restore but keeps Uxie up there. Next turn I get a Spiritomb AR on bench, evolve active to Electrode, free retreat to Gastly, attach energy + belt, and Trick Gas for the KO (yes, that’s right, I one shot an Uxie with a Gastly). I switch to Spiritomb to start the lock. I don’t remember much of the match, but I do remember Leveling down his DGX only for him to top-deck on his next turn (o.0). My final KO was after I repeatedly Cursed a benched Azelf and Curse Breathed on it with Spiritomb LA. Not a great match, my set up was too fast. 1-0
Round 2
Radar vs. Austin (Tyranitar)
Playing a friend early again! Sigh. Open Gastly to Larvitar. I pitch dark him twice to delay his set up, he mountain eater’d me to discard a PONT (no! I had such a bad hand) and something else. He hasn’t played any other benched, and at this point I have two energy on Gastly. I played BTS already, and top deck a Collector. Get Uxie and Azelf, Time walk for a prized Haunter, evolve, set up and nab Gengar SF. Belt and Poltergeistdonk FTW. Cheap win, but he took it well. 2-0.
Round 3
Radar vs. Jeremy J (LuxChomp)
I know everyone in AZ. Jeremy is the same guy that owns the pair of headphones the GF is swooning over, so I contemplate scooping if he’ll trade us the headphones. He also switched shirts, which I found amusing for some reason. Anyway, to the match! I open Gastly to his Luxray GL, attach energy and pitch dark. He Cyrus’s, attaches an energy (I think), and passes. I Collector, Uxie set up and nab Gengar SF. I attach energy, rare candy and POLTERGEISTDONKSAYWHATAGAIN. Yeah, two cheap wins in a row; although this time I am pretty sure I did 5000 damage since 90% of his hand was TSS. GG? I guess? More like QG (quick game). 3-0
Round 4
Radar vs. Douglas (Dialgachomp)
Douglas was so nervous. His first Master season, he’s 3-0. I tell him to relax and just play out his strategy. However, he had just built the deck the night before and had had little practice with it. Also, he had defeated my GF in an earlier round so I needed to defend her honor, be chivalrous and whatnot (Austin had found out what the consequences are for beating my GF
). So we start, I forget how the specifics but he never got out DGX, I fainting spelled a super charged up Dialga, and basically sweep. Didn’t do badly for his first Masters tourney, and I’m sure he will be a force to be reckoned with as the season goes on. At this point I am basically assured top 4 cut. 4-0
Round 5
Radar vs. Anthony (Luxchomp)
I played BTS and Pokemon communication for Uxie, which got sprayed. That’s the extent of what I did. Oh well. 4-1 exceeds the expectations and now I am getting packs! Yay for free cards!! 4-1
Top Cut and I am the #1 seed!! And I get to play… Quinn! I hope he isn’t too angry about me beating his brother Douglas. After dishing out all this revenge I suppose it is time I get mine.

Game 1
NOOOO MY NIGHTMARE OPENING. Unown Q. He goes first, opens with gogo Ampipom G, which proceeds to gogoDONK me with a DCE and Snap Attack. Ah snap son, now I gotta come from behind.
Game 2
I honestly don’t remember much of this match. I limited my power usage in order to keep Power Sprays in his hand. I Poltergeisted for not a lot of damage, but at some point he couldn’t heal off the damage fast enough. I take game 2, setting up an epic finale with the winner getting at least 2 extra packs.
Game 3
He opens Jirachi, I start with Gastly. He doesn’t do anything, so I Uxie set up, nab Gengar SF (that thing loves me). So I attach energy, Rare Candy and SHADOWROOMDONK. This Gengar, I tell you man, it came through clutch today.
So now on to the final 2, awaiting the winner of Jeremy and Anthony. No matter what, I play Luxchomp, making Electrode, once again, effectively useless.

Game 1
My memory fails me. I don’t get much set up, he ravages any attempt at evolving a Gengar on my bench. Sprays an Azelf (crucial because I had a Gastly and Uxie prized). He has the Chompness going and I don’t have anything set up to stop it, so I scoop.
Game 2
I go second, and I have everything set up. Two Gengar, spiritomb and a fresh hand. Awesome. I race out to a 2-4 prize lead, but he has damaged my Gengar’s enough, works around fainting spell, and I run out of resources. I played an Electrode early that turned out to be completely useless, and he bright looked things (Azelf, Spiritomb) that I couldn’t retreat. He catches and passes me. To the victor go the victory medals.
So I am happy because I exceeded expectations, but a bit disappointed because I was right there at the end. I pull Slowking Prime, RH Umbreon and top half of RDL. GF goes 2-3 with Eeveelutions, which isn’t bad
