We have a thread about rap, so why not about pop.
Pop seems to be shoved off as a "good" genre, but it has it's good songs.

So here you can say wether you like pop music or not, also list why so this doesn't get's spammy.
And of course you can share songs you think are good.

Pop music is good. I like artists like Lady Gaga and a few others.

But seems to be bugging me the most is that all music is merging into the Pop genre, like Afi, Paramore, Fall Out Boy and even more classics like Green Day. They have all lost their edginess they had in their original albums. I'm not saying this is an evil, bad thing, it's just that I like having my variety of music, without it all soon merging into the same.

Those bands are falling into a category that we like to refer to as pop-rock. Bands such as bon jovi have been living on this line since they first came out. Poison is there too, don't let that glam rock genre fool you any.

pop has always been like hip hop for me, the music is catchy but not of my style, but the music video's are funny to watch on mute, lol. cya

P.S. common fact: alot of band's dive into pop at some point to gain more fan's.

I don't really like pop.
-people who(around my school, not you guys) absolutely worship it and feel the need to play it even louder than the radio on the bus
-shush girl, shush your lips, do the Helen Keller, and talk with your hips(self-explanitory)
-annoying, gets stuck in your head.
-doesn't have any striking rythm or notes, just stuff even I could figure out, easily.
-I was listining to Evenescence and Metallica as a baby, I was born into rock. Pop, not so much.

I guess some of the Pop musics are OK. I like to listen to Jay Sean. I don't listen to much of Pop songs, but whenever I'm bored or anything then I guess it fun to listen to. It does get annoying sometimes when people in school carried away with the songs and try to act like them and play them all the time.

I'm into Pop, Classic and Modern Rock (70's, 80's, 90's), 90's Alternative, Old School Rap, Dance, Techno, and a little R&B. When it comes to Pop, I gotta give it to Michael Jackson.

I'm probably gonna get bashed for saying it but his music was really really good. The lyrics in his songs had meaning and often times tried to encourage other people in the world to do the right thing. Sometimes it was also based on different cultures in time as well.

Thriller was an album in which was unique at the time and Off the Wall had some really good tracks though most of his selflessness songs were geared on some of his 90's albums such as Bad, Dangerous, and Blood on the Dance Floor.

As a fun thing, Blood on the dance floor is also an alternative band.
I sometimes listen to them, although their text can be... not suitable for all ages.

^omgyosh I love them xD

From what I know, they're conidered electronic though.

Pop music:

music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered-down version of rock'n'roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love.

I'd say that's how Paramore, Forever the Sickest Kids, ECT are going down as.

^On my mp3 player their listed as:
others
techno/screamo
emo
alternative
happy hardcore

But most of them are under alternative so I just said that :p

What I'm listening now, pop wise, is Jason Derulo, Iyaz, Ne-yo. And frankly, Shakira.

To think there was actually a band named after a Michael Jackson album, interesting...

For the most part, I pretty much hate pop music, with a few exceptions.

First off, I'd like to say that change is a good thing. You can't expect a band to pick one sound and stick with it until they die. If they do, and they make it work, good for them. But just because they enjoy writing one way for the most part doesn't mean that they don't enjoy other music. It's one thing to change completely your music, it's another to dabble and make a variety of music.

I like a lot of hard rock and metal music, especially older stuff. Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Gun's N' Roses, Iron Maiden, etc. I also like a lot of just rock music, like Tom Petty and John Cougar Mellencamp.

The reason why I really don't like pop music is because the focus isn't on the instruments. It's dead center on the singer. A good singer is important in any kind of music, but you also need good music. Most pop music is just a singer singing with some weird effects (auto-tune, echo, etc etc etc. [with are fine when used in moderation, but when everyone and their mom is doing it, it's just annoying and get old fast), a catchy beat, and the like.

When you listen to rock music, a good singer is cool (and important) to have, but the music really hits you, too.

I tend to clump bands like Green Day, Paramore, and The All-American Rejects into the alternative genre. While some of their songs are more poppy than others, these bands still have enough focus on the music to get me by. Hayley Williams is an amazing signer, but she's not the complete focus of the band.

I don't buy into the whole emo genre, all music is supposed to be emotional to some extent. Music can't be music without emotion, in my opinion.

ugh why is pop a genre of music... it's a completely subjective term depending on what time period you're looking at, and doesn't do anything to describe the music itself unless you're VERY specific with the time period. even then, there are usually multiple kinds of music that could be considered 'pop' at the time. crappy labeling imo

I just gotta say that Pop as a whole has really been dead since the early 2000's....the boy band and britney/christina era was the last stand for pop. The best pop music however came out of the 80's. Like I was seriously disappointed in my senior prom when all they really played was rap....you can't dance to rap! 80's pop is the real dance music.
