Prerelease questions

RR will be my first prerelease, so I have a few questions:

1. After opening my packs, am I allowed to trade with the other players before building my deck?
2. Each person will be given 6 packs, which is 60 cards. Since the deck is only 40 cards, including basic Energy cards, do I get to keep the rest of my cards that I didn't put into my deck?

1. No
2. You get to keep all your cards (besides the basic energy they provide you with).

Hope I helped.

EDIT: Ninja'd

By the way, for some odd reason, you are not allowed to watch other players when you are done with your battle. I recieved a warning for watching another match when I was done. :(

That's because you could have been scouting; seeing what other people are playing on order to get an advantage over them. Especially during last season people watched other players to see if they played a Dusknoir DP2. And no matter how small the tournament may be, OP doesn't allow scouting during them.

Odd. at both my prereleases I've gone to(PL and SF) we got to KEEP the energies! Altghough it was the same organizer, so count it as only one case.

hmm... In between matches I watch people next to me or I play my friend who comes with me to pres :3

Technically, it isn't allowed either, though I suppose the officials were okay with you doing it. A few times, I'm asked to get up out of my seat if I've clearly packed up and the people next to me were still playing.

How many basic Energy cards would you recommend using in my deck?

As much as you want in your deck.

You can run anything, even mulligan like the LA Pre-Release for 1 Pokemon and 39 energy.

I would recommend at most half the deck. Less if there's multiple Trainers.

dmaster out.

I got laughed at for playing an absurd amount of energy (over half the deck) and went undefeated b/c my opponents had severe energy droughts. Oh, the irony.

^Ownage lol. In the end anyway, it's nearly impossible to have a good startegy in your deck so just have no more than 3 types of energy and combine speed with power. Stage 1s are great as they balance speed and power but stage 2s rule as well if you can get em out since they're so strong and strong basics like SPs and rotoms pwn too. and for god's sake, of you get any playable Lv.X, use it!

A Pre-Release is like, "Use any card and win with it".

Yeah, there is no strategy. Except Nidoking/Electrode G. :p

I've recived a warning for watching matches before.
I understand at stuff like nats, regi's, etc. but at pre-releases it's just stupid.
Even if you know what there playing, it's not like you have a choise of what deck you use or how you play it, that's why I hate them, you have no choise of how good your deck is.

I still go to them for the cards tho lol

Went 3-0 with an Arcinine deck at the RR pre-release :D
