Prizes for Losers?

At states today (don't say they have finished because they go for a month in the UK :p), there were prizes for the first people to lose each round. Then, a kid just lost deliberatly each round to get these prizes (he told me himself). I told the organiser, but he didn't do anything. It meant that when I beat him, my win counted for virtually nothing. However though, I was playing Dialga G so I just deafened to try to stop him from losing first :F. He was actually saying that he would pay me £50 (around $75) to attach an energy to Dialga for Second Strike.

I didn't belive him.

Weird kid :/

Discuss!

...whats to discuss? If the kid wanted to lose badly, he obviously accomplished the goal. I don't think the TO is going to do anything because they cant control if someone wins or loses. They can tell him not to lose on purpose, but they wont really know whats on purpose or not. So there is nothing they can do, I don't know why you would think they could do something. And you were expecting your rating to go up at all when beating a kid who is 0-X? Thats funny. These things happen, some people would rather get "door prizes" then fight their way to the top.

I didn't expect it to go up. They didn't say any of the positions throughout the tourny. It also wasted a game and made the day less enjoyable. :/

I don't think prizes for losing is ever right. Raffles, Door Prizes, and winning is fine, but you should not be able to control when you get a prize. I doubt reporting it would do anything, but I agree with you that that is wrong.

Purposely losing a game is against the "Spirit Of The Game." You should always do your best.

^^I agree. Losing on purpose just to get prizes isn't right. Plus, why would they give prizes to losers >_>
And the organizer should have done something.

Umm... isn't bribing illegal?

And you shouldn't have prizes for losing, since that makes some people want to lose for some prizes. Unless they are record-hungry, players would on purposely lose and ruin the purpose of the game: to win and have fun.

Whoever thought able giving prizes to losers obviously was not considering the consequences. You know a more ingenious idea? Giving prizes to everyone. >=/

When I told the organiser I could tell from his body language that he wanted to do something about it, but the kid's parents would probably get angry for saying that he wouldn't be able to get them. He got folders, Giratina caps, Pokémon merchandise etc.

The tourney organizer should have done this as a surprise and for like the first round or last round. But telling the players AND every round...
