Problem with downloaded music....

So I heard you like muDkiPz!

I just regestered on MSN music and I downloaded seven songs. But the songs won't play on my PSP, it says that they have copyright protection or something like that. But they all play on my PC. And I really want to listen to them on the go.

What should I do?

RE: Problem with downloaded music...

What should you do? I'll tell you what to do.

Stop trying to be a moral citizen. That's what you have to do.

Instead of paying for your music, download them for free using something like a torrent. Doing this not only saves you money, but they don't have copyright protection, either. So you can stick them on your iPod or PSP or whatever.

RE: Problem with downloaded music...

Doing that can also get your arrested....
I would try to find whats wrong and see if it's just your PSP and not the music.

RE: Problem with downloaded music...

Most likely they are DRM protected. I tried to download this album off of spiralfrog because I couldn't find the album anywhere else. But the DRM protection prevents you from putting the music on CDs or Ipods. I found that the only way to take the DRM protection off was to get some software...which costs I think 30$. Luckily I found the album on Itunes after that.

Please, don't get me started on the whole conscience argument. You think downloading music makes me a criminal? Well. How many of you have recorded something off of television with a VHS tape or digital set-top box hard drive? Hmmm? YOU ALL HAVE. And by doing so, YOU ARE ALL CRIMINALS, AND AT THE SAME TIME, HYPOCRITES.

That was my point... some people think it is wrong to do so, but I do it all the time... they feel that is against their moral values. True, it is a criminal offense (at least here in Singapore), but at least 90% of the Internet users have done something illegal online (downloading any copyright materials is illegal, visiting pornographic websites is also illegal), I am no exception .

It is illegal, you cannot deny this fact. Indeed there are people who feel strongly against it, this is undeniable. I was just pointing out a possibility that Gamefreak734 might be one of them. If so, you should not force upon your beliefs towards him, respect his beliefs. That is, if he is against downloading (which I highly doubt).

Don't forget, PokéBeach Forums is a child-friendly forum, we are not supposed to speak of such illegal activities... you can't talk about ROMs here, but who doesn't download ROMs?

Wow.

Don't you people get arrested for that down under?

Arrests don't take place here in Malaysia for illegal downloaded content, but I'm pretty sure it does happen there?

Are you kidding me? Or are you just pretending to be stupid? You really need to read my statement again. I *KNOW* it's illegal to record things from television. It's why I was using it as an example, because *EVERYONE* has done it at some point in their lives. So calling me a criminal for downloading music and software, is, well, a rather hypocritical accusation. (Which is the point I was trying to convey.)

Next time you want to blow the whistle on someone, read their post again. It might make you look a bit less stupid.

It's against the law, sure. But it's a rather impossible thing to crack down on. Police can't go door knocking arresting the entire nation. So no, you don't get arrested. (Unless you are 'pirating' it, and there have been some major busts on pirating here in Australia.)

People need to understand the difference between 'pirating' and 'personal use'. They are two very different things which many people get confused.

So, you are rather safe, unless you are making multiple copies of the software, music, etc. etc. and selling them for a profit. (Ergo, pirating.)

Visiting pornographic websites isn't all out illegal. It's only illegal if you are viewing it under the age of consent to view such materials in your country. (18 in Australia.) So, with me only being 15, it would be illegal for me to go and view a pornographic website. But you can't really stop people under the 'age of consent' from going to those websites, or viewing such content anyway.

I am not trying to force my beliefs onto anyone, I am merely debating the issue of P2P software, and the like.

Pirating or even downloading is illegal. Whether for personal use or pirating, it's illegal. Lol, it's true that if everyone were to be caught for every illegal thing to do, the world would be one big jail :p

Lol, that's why all of us are safe, but the guys out on the road selling illegal goods are caught by cops... Don't buy downloaded goods by pirates, just pirate it yourself. It's pathetic that people pay others to do the dirty job by themselves...

So your trying to say that everybody does it? How ignorant. Your entire generalzation is unrealistic and quite hilarous. Next time you try to make a judgement, make sure it actually seems realistic.

There is actually a difference between the two. The fact is, TV ratings don't change if you record a program. CD sales, however, do. CD sales=livelyhood for artists/huge record company. You're basically stealing the work of another. Recording a program is different in that it can be done legally (and I think its legal in most cases anyways).

So next time you steal, I'll call you out on it. I'll do it every time. I really feel like getting the authorities involved in your case right now, since your promoting it. I'm sure they won't do anything, but I'll get a deep satifiaction as pissing you off.

I knew a flame war is coming. I'm not going to report this to the mods, they have eyes.

Papi/Manny: In the eyes of the law, as long as you obtain copyrighted materials in any form, it's illegal. As long as you do illegal stuff, you are vulnerable to the law. Whether people are affected or not, you cannot deny that indeed, you broke the law.

I don't totally agree with your thinking. Are you implying that if you do something that does not harm/hinder something/someone, you are righteous? Law says no.

Right now, my stand is that if you do illegal things, its your business, you run the risk of being caught by the police and being tipped of by members of the public. No matter whether you think you are right or not, justice will prevail. I totally understand this, and so should any of you guys who break the law. Regardless of whether you promote it, make a living out of it or do so for personal use, it is illegal. Even not telling on someone who does it is illegal.

I hope anyone who choose to break the law, and knowingly does so, realise this risk and bear all responsibility to whatever happens to them, should it actually happen. This is an undeniable fact.

Since it is undeniable, I see no point in further posts that contain any hints of disputing the law. Really, stay neutral, accept anyone and everyone's point of view when you are debating. At least try to, like I do. This is really starting to become a flame war.

What on earth are you talking about? If the company gives consent, you can do whatever you want. The law can't touch anything if there has been consent given. What I was saying is that one is defniately more harmful then the other. People jaywalk all the time, and I mean all the time. It's against the law. Wheres the justice?

LOL justice will prevail. In a perfect world it would. Then again, in a perfect world, justice wouldn't be needed. Did you know that ~40% of all murders go unsolved? Sounds like justice, right?

OJ Simpson is my responce to this entire claim. If you have the money, you can get away with genocide.

Thats rediculous and not what a debate is. :/ The nature of debate is to despute another's claim.

Just to jump about 3 points ahead, the reason I brought my points up was because justifing criminal action with other criminal action is utterly absurd.

Okay...

"I see a thread where a flame war is obviously in the works, but I'm just going to turn the other way and let the mods find this on their own."

...??

If you see a problem, report it.Yeah we have eyes, but letting problems in a thread just fester until they explode is... not the smartest course of action. I'm sure y'all can agree.

That said, you guys are all off-topic. Only one person bothered even helping the dude with his problem, and because you guys hijacked his topic and veered it into Off-Topic Mountain, it's getting locked.

Warnings for all next time! ^_^
