Can anybody tell me the rules/regulations for constructing a Professor Deck? I know you can't use any rares, but what are the other limits?

The format is different every year.

So don't go building a 60-card no-rare deck expecting to play it in 2009. You will be highly disappointed.

oh cuz I heard there were like cards you still can't use even if it's not a rare. Eh, guess the person was wrong lol. Thanks guys

They did ban Wormadam Sandy Cloak, which was originally a Rare in Secret Wonders but slipped in as an Uncommon in POP7.

Additionally, you could not use any Black Star promos, Victory Medal, or Trainer Kit cards.

Those were the only exceptions to the rule.

I'm pretty sure you could use victory medal but what ever. And wormadam SC is banned in prof.cup:( that cards rocks lol

does anybody know what other kinds of limitations there were in past prof. cups?
i cant imagine any other kinds of limitations that would make sense..

No, you couldn't. The Professor Cup page is still up. Check it.

It was way overpowered due to the no-rare limitation. Think Gardelade times 10. It wasn't banned for the European Professor Cup, and something like 85% of the decks were Wormadam.

They banned it for the North American Professor Cup after seeing how it ruined the European event. The Professor Cup is supposed to be a fun event where you can play crazy off-the-wall decks, but Wormadam turned it into "either play Wormadam or fail trying to counter it".

The 2007 Professor Cup used a 30-card deck with a limit of 2 copies of any card.

In 2006, it was a Sealed Deck tournament (like a pre-release).

no George, the format changed every year

2006 - Sealed event. We were given 6 packs to construct a 40 card deck. After 2 rounds elapsed, we were given 2 more packs, and our deck size increased to 50 cards. 2 More rounds and we had to play 60 cards while adding 2 more boosters into our card pool.

2007 - 1/2 deck, doubles events. For the swiss rounds we played 1/2 deck, 30 card decks, 3 prizes, MAX of 2 of any 1 card (except basic energy) and then the top cut played full 60 card decks, but in a 2v2 format, meaning both players had 2 active pokemon.

2008 - no rares* event. No rares, black star, victory medal, or trainer kit cards were legal for use in this format. For the NA Professor cup, Wormadam Sandy Cloak was banned also. Normal 60 card deck rules applied.
