I dont think this belongs in the "Is there a card that does_____?" thread, but is Base Set Professor Oak played as a trainer or supporter. For those that dont know, the card text is the same as Juniper. Supporters didnt exist then, but the effect is too broken to be played as a trainer.

It's a Trainer.

The only reason the old Bill is treated as a Supporter is because it was reprinted as one. Even though Professor Oak and Professor Juniper have similar (but not identical) wording, they are NOT considered the same card even though their effects are the same. In Unlimited, if you play Oak, you play it as a Trainer. If you play Juniper, you play it as a Supporter.

technically wouldnt it be considered an item? i heard somewhere that they ruled that all non supporter, non stadium trainer cards (even if they werent reprinted as an item) are now considered items

idk if thats true or not

all items, supporters, stadiums, tools are known as trainers in this case its merely a old card thats labled as a trainer and thats it which means this card would be able to be used under item lock but not trainer lock such as the old spiritomb that blocked trainers when active

all items, supporters, stadiums, tools are known as trainers...

Which is why the initial question and answer were misworded, though most reading it would understand that @Mora was asking about Item versus Supporter.

Sadly, I cannot find the original ruling, I found a related one:

Q. In Unlimited, can I use Korrina to get old Trainer cards like Professor Oak, Item Finder, etc.?
A. Yes. If a card is not a Supporter or a Stadium card, it would be considered an Item card by a new card effect. (Sep 4, 2014 TPCi Rules Team)
