Quality of the cards

So I jumped back into the TCG pretty strong after an 8 year break. I have gotten two boxes of storm front, three boxes of HG/SS one box of Platinum, (cant remember the correct set), and a booster lot of mixed packs. I also bought a box of HG/SS starters. Had a lot of good pulls.

But the main question is the quality of the cards, seems like it has gone down tremendously. I live in Japan and me and my wife bout an awesome card binder (has an almost water colored drawing on it of lugia and ho-oh. but as I am putting the cards in I am tremendously careful but it almost seems that one card are so will get niches on the bottom it isn't noticeable but it is enough to make more nervous.

So what do you guys think?

Oh by the way I am new, my wife and I prowl here a lot though.
 
yea, the american card quality seems super frail compared to the japanese cards. american cards seem to split on the sides and edges. many times u can see scraped edges on the back of cards just from opening a pack.

wish pokemon usa also used japanese quality card stock. i cant even put my cards into deck protector sleeves as im afraid it will nick the sides. only way around this is to use soft sleeves
 
I thought it was only me, I live in Japan so I bought a couple of packs here. Thats when I decided to buy the boxes most of it came off ebay. I thought that was the main reason.

What do you think of unleashed?
 
i just got back into the tcg with the legend series
so the only thing i have to compared to is the base set cards-gym. the backs were not as fragile as the hgss and unleashed series. the prime cards are also cut poorly, this may be due to the fraile holographic border.
the japanese cards i see on youtube seem to be glossy, pliable, and thicker/more durable than american cards?
 
Yeah the Japanese cards are made great but Pokemon over here is almost a lifestyle, the pokemon center in Yokohoma and Hamistchiou (butchered that last city lol). Every time my wife and I go their we are fighting for stuff. I tried forever to get Arcues sleeves
