Question about Holo Effect on the Entire Card (Diamond & Pearl Era Cards)

Hi there, so I've purchased a couple of cards recently from the Diamond & Pearl sets.

It seems that with some of the Holo-foil cards, the holofoil effect is printed on the ENTIRE card instead of the illustration. Examples of this would be Gastrodon, Mew, Raikou and Entei from Secret Wonders, as well as Cresselia from Majestic Dawn.

However, there are also some other holofoils I have that have the holofoil within the illustration like usual. Examples of these would be Mew from Secret Wonders, Darkrai & Cresselia from Majestic Dawn, Lumineon from Mysterious Treasures, as well as Swampert and Giratina from Great Encounters.

I mentioned Mew and Cresselia twice. That is because I have 2 copies of the 2 different types of holo effect on each.

Was this a printing error? Are these cards supposed to have the holo effect on the entirety of them? And if so, what sets specifically have this feature on them? (Is it JUST Diamond & Pearl sets? Or do these extend into the Platinum and HG/SS holos as well??)

So far, I suspect that Secret Wonders and Majestic Dawn have these. But since Great Encounters is inbetween them, I could only imagine that set might also have full-holos in them as well.

If I understand what you are saying, you are asking about the cards that show the holofoil pattern on the entirety of the card. These are not extremely common, but not hard to find. The D&P sets contain a lot of these types of cards. They are error cards.

I know for sure Secret Wonders and Majestic Dawn have them like you stated. I can't remember any from other sets, but I'm sure they exist.

I had these on many cards from my original DP Pokédex collection...most notably on holos from D&P Base, Mysterious Treasures, and Secret Wonders. It's really just a printing error, and not even one that is noteworthy enough to mention on eBay listings and the like (I'm assuming this is because it's such a common error). I think they actually look pretty cool.

This was common if not standard on the early DP sets. They didn't use as much ink, so the holo paper shines through. All of my cards have this effect.

Are they really that common? I guess I just have bought lame DP cards because I only have a few.

I wondered about that. I have many Secret Wonders cards that had that error but then I bought a lot of loose 36 packs and they were inconsistent with the holo effects. I much prefer the error ones. So sparkly!

I agree, this is one of the few appealing errors out there - I love the Secret Wonders Lugia with the error holograph pattern on the whole card :)
